I think all you need to do is drill out the spot welds and weld it back on where you want it.

No drilling necessary ; those spot welds will pop off with a hammer and chisel ......then just grind flush and remount tracks .

It takes some careful fitting to keep them parallel and even... never done it myself but I remember a thread where it was done without enough care, and the seat was very hard to slide. I don't know if it's as simple as tacking them down with the seat in place, or if it is trickier. You might search for that thread.

I've done it. Had to drill some spot welds down most of the way and then popped em with a sharpened steel putty knife. You can only move the rails back so far and still have a flat surface to weld them back on without some sort of mod. I did make a wood frame before i started the removal, this worked out great as i could tell both rails were square and even with each other before re- welding. Good luck, it's really not that hard, just cover your base's with some sort of guide. Leg room is so much better for me.

The easiest way that I have found to position the tracks correctly is to slide the seat back on the tracks, position the seat where you want it, tack weld the tracks back in place, remove the seat & finish welding the tracks

In my case, I transferred the original seat tracks because they were far better quality than the ones supplied with the aftermarket pan halves. I did mount the tracks about 2" further back than stock position.
