Can a 109 tooth / 200mm European style flywheel bolt up to a stock 40hp Crankshaft? In effect letting me use a larger 200mm clutch for my old 40hp motor?
Thank you.... _________________ 1964 Type 1 |

yes.....if your 40 hoss is 12 volt, use a 6 volt starter and a suitable bushing. _________________ '69 Karmy, '69 Camper, Meyers clone, '65 drag bug, 10.78 @ 128 (sold it) '51 Dodge farm truck,

Is the 109 tooth flywheel for a later O-ringed crankshaft? If it is, it won't fit the 40 horse crank without machining. _________________ John Bates

In the old days.....LOL......a "6 volt, 200mm flywheel" was a colloquial term given to a highbred flywheel, allowing the use of 40 hoss crank, with the benefit of a 200mm clutch. A "O" ring, 200mm flywheel is just a "O" ring 200mm flywheel. Also, the 6 volt 200mm flywheel would fit inside of a swing-axle 6 volt trans bell housing without machine werk. _________________ '69 Karmy, '69 Camper, Meyers clone, '65 drag bug, 10.78 @ 128 (sold it) '51 Dodge farm truck,

1965 bus used a 109 tooth, 200mm non o-ring flywheel. 1966 bus used a 109 tooth, 200mm flywheel but for an O-ring crank. If he has a 1966 bus flywheel, machine work has to be done to fit 40 horse crank. I am not sure if the European 6 volt, 200mm flywheels will fit without machining. I have machined quite a few o-ringed flywheels to fit 40 horse cranks. _________________ John Bates

Yeah, I read those books too. Sounds like you just need to use a non-O ring, 109-tooth 200 mm flywheel. Why "machine" anything? Besides screwing up rare flywheels. _________________ '69 Karmy, '69 Camper, Meyers clone, '65 drag bug, 10.78 @ 128 (sold it) '51 Dodge farm truck,
