I know there are two wires involved inthe backup light circuit. One from coil to transmission cone and a second from transmission cone to a splitter behind the tarboard. My question is do both wires route through the front breastplate engine tin hole on the right side or would the return wire go through the firewall hole pictured below:

I have read multiple threads on this and cant seem to find this little detail. Would help a ton of somebody could clarify which hole/holes the two wires route through.

Thanks

Normally these two wires are merged to a wire harness and are routed together to the transmission switch. These wires go throuh a grommet in the front engine tin.

Through a grommet in the small hole. Was that larger hole made by a previous owner???

I assumed that hole was factory - is it not the same on all 73 supers?

Found an answer to my own question and thought I would share. Went by a vw graveyard we have near here and looked in a few engine bays. Turns out the firewall hole is for a cable that went to the diagnostic port from under the car (couldnt get a good view underneath). Here is a pic:

So both backup light wires go through the engine tin as several of yall suggested. Since I will not be rewiring the diagnostic port I will simply plug that hole. Thanks for the help folks.
