So, I'm getting a squeek from my drivers rear when I go around a left hand turn. I jacked it up a removed the rear wheels. I thought maybe bad bearings. I'm getting almost no play in the shafts. The axle nut on the driver side was a little loose. Could that be causing the squeek? 69 bug

How much was a little loose. It is supposed to be torqued to 250 lbs. Doing mine last weekend I thought they were going to break right before the torque wrench clicked...

Did you remove the drum? You should check if any drum spline dust worked its way into the bearing. In and out movement of the axle could be expected, but there should be no up/down or back/forth movement. Don't be surprised if the drum should be replaced/won't stay tight. Start with the obvious.
