Gents,
I'm in the process of preparing my bus to be media blasted and am down to removing the wiring harness. Everything else has been removed. I've tied rope to both ends (front and engine bay) until I figure out which way to pull it out.
Any tips or suggestions? I see a couple of small holes in the beam where I can see the harness but I cant get it to budge when i pull on rope..either direction. Are there clips anywhere under the front floor?
Thanks,

The harness runs along the passenger side frame, when it exits just behind the front axle, the frame there is enclosed, it opens up and runs down the main frame to where it enters and enclosed space over the torsion tube. Where the open frame is there are 4 bent over tabs holding the harness in place. This may be what's holding you up.
I'm installing my harness now and did not run a guide wire thru the enclosed areas. The best thing to do is find a 4' piece of copper wire and tie to the end of the harness and leave in the enclosed areas. This will make it much easier to install a new harness later. Good luck and hope this helps. _________________ Can't polish a turd!

Leaving it attached at the fuse box (cutting it about 6 inches shorter) will save you hours of time when you put the other one in. |

Assuming that all of those wire colors are originals, then that is excellent advice. Save the old harness to scavenge original color-coded wire from if in the future you need to do so.
When we did my '59 DC, we attached nylon rope to the front of the harness, then pulled it out the rear of the Bus, then attached the rope to the forward end of the new Wiring Works harness and pulled the new one to the front of the Bus easy-peasy. Surprisingly easy process, and well worth the cost as little effort. Here is a link to the page in my DC build thread where we did the wiring harness work:

Enjoy your soon-to-be- fresh wiring!

People doing this would obviously double check. most (if not all) the wiring will be correct. In the end it makes no difference to me if he decides to do it the hard way. |
