Hi guys, im Phil and i just purchesed a 73SB 1600 FI from a Samba member. Engine was "running" great when i got but after a couple of days there was a significant fuel leak coming from the muffker. So I check the oil and there gas on it. I changed the pil right away. The PO owner replaced the fuel lines and the harness already. The only thing i did was replace the brake lines. My question is can you tell me what to check first order wise. Like 1) fuel pump 2) fuel injections, 3 fuel regulator etc..... And i need tips and tricks to check each one. Thanks.
This is when it was running good

The whole car when i got it
I tried to wet sand and the OG color pop out

Check your metal fuel return line on the passenger side to make sure it is not plugged up. It will force fuel into the oil if it is plugged. Unhook both ends & blow compressed air front to back. _________________ 69 FI/AT square Daily Driver

Buy a cheap water pressure gauge at Home Depot/Lowes and a hose barb to attach 5/6" fuel hose to it. Clamp the hose from your gauge to your test port between the 3-4 or 1-2 injectors. You should have 28-32 lbs fuel pressure. _________________ 69 FI/AT square Daily Driver

at least the engine sounds good
make sure you have this under the shifter, and that this is the way it's installed. It should lock out and not be possible to hit reverse with this installed correctly
unless you have a junk aftermarket shifter that is...

Might as well BC/CC it inside & out before putting it all back together! Two-Tone? _________________ 69 FI/AT square Daily Driver

Did you mean BEAD BLAST/ clear coat? .....nah ill just clear cote on top of that OG BLUE (patina?) and will just do the outside part of the car. That thing that holds me back on going all out on restoration is its a 73, i dont think its worth the value. So im going for a mild/ low budget build. _________________ http://www.thesamba.com/vw/forum/viewtopic.php?t=648250 |

Base Coat/Clear Coat and it will be worth 4 times as much? Check the ads. '73 should have the one year only 3.88 overdrive transmission. _________________ 69 FI/AT square Daily Driver

I got back the sb from the paint shop
and my dad started the installing the headliner
But we are having a hard time installing it because we dont know where the bows are located. Is there a bow installed on the beam? Ans im missing 2 bow clips. But i think one of the bows didnt need a clip

Hey... I've seen "that look" before, and it involved a headliner as well. Let me see if I can come up with some "visuals" to help out. _________________ Немає виправдання для війни! Я з Україною.

I would just lower 2 inner splines in front to start or your tires will rub? _________________ 69 FI/AT square Daily Driver
