Has anyone out there upgraded from the standard "dial-type" air conditioning control to the "climatronic" type control in a Eurovan?
I.e. from:

I've never seen that done, it sounds like you would need a ton of technical reference stuff to marry that into the ECU though.
I bought my EV with manual AC specifically to avoid that btw!! _________________ πΊπΈ πΊπΈ πΊπΈ πΊπΈ πΊπΈ πΊπΈ πΊπΈ π π π |

Everything I have read so far suggests that this will not be simple... |

Is anyone else annoyed by the fact that there's no option available allowing you to enable the dash and foot vents at the same time? _________________ Casey--

Actually, I've never even thought of anything when it comes to the manual system after 14 years of ownership. It's done what I've always asked it to do.
As for sticking in an automatic system, I'd look through the wiring diagram first. Then when you figure that out, pull the parts out of the doaner van you have. |

No, but fuel for my yacht is up at least 3% this year. I guess I can save it by not tipping someone.
(some FW sarcasm of course)
If i need the AC on the EV, I want it on the dash vents and no where else. It does have a dreamy powerful AC with that variable displacement compressor.
..and if you set the dial in between there is a spot where you can blow both dash and foot vents on my 2002, at least _________________ πΊπΈ πΊπΈ πΊπΈ πΊπΈ πΊπΈ πΊπΈ πΊπΈ π π π |

I'm not as annoyed with the AC, but when it's chilly out I would like to have warm air on my feet and chest at the same time. _________________ Casey--

| Go buy a T2 Bus and drive that for the winter. In addition to freezing for about 90 minutes before any heat comes out, you'll need an ice scraper for the inside. |

I've owned seven Transporters; at least one of each from T1 to T4. I know a thing or two about lousy climate controls, but this issue seems to be an omission that I assume has been rectified in the T5 or T6 _________________ Casey--

| You can just put the knob in the 4 o'clock position. |

| A couple of people have retrofitted climate in Europe, hardest part is sourcing the parts. Wiring is fairly simple and plugs into the fuseboard, all the diagrams are available from the vw site. Dash needs to come out and the heater box needs replacing. |

If I were to go through the hassle and expense of this swap, I'd also want to add the rear controls and second AC evaporator. _________________ Casey--

That's not the problem. Each Spring there too much air coming out at my feet and in the fall it's too much at my face. For some reason, it's not a problem in Arizona. |
