I know of a 1943 KDF 82e in Germany. I saw it in person this past summer _________________ 1953 Zwitter 11C (L73) |

Yes, that's my 44' 82e that Tom (KdF-Service) asked about. I'm still collecting the parts to restore it. As you can imagine it takes a while.
The 43' that "kafer53" mentions was probably Hermann Walters car.
A very well known 82e!
I'm wondering about the year 1944 specifically.
There seems to be around twice as many 43 KdF cars as 44 KdFs due to the Allied Bombing of the KdF Plant. The V1 Rochets were made there, and that made the Plant a huge priority to Bomb.
There was another 1944' 82e in Tenn, but I heard that was sold. _________________ Feb 1944 KdF Type 82e.

Hi,
i read in the magazine about your car - but when are you going to restaure the car ?
I heard that you have the car already for a long time and nothing is happening ?
A friend here in Hannover has also a 82e now over 20 years and nothing is happening to this car also.

Thanks Tom. I know YOU know what it takes to restore a KdF.
Commander. Yes, I understand. You are not the only one that has said that to me. Most of the other KdF owner's I know don't say that because they "understand." One very well off KdF owner told me "it took the life out of him restoring his car". It also cost him over 100K U.S. to restore it.
I'm still collecting the parts to restore the car "correctly"
It would be foolish of me to put the car in a Body Shop and then have to wait 2 years trying to find "that next part" the shop owner needs in order to continue working on it. Wouldnt you say? I'm "attempting" to use original parts 100% of the time. (This is actually impossible because many parts don't exist) When found, these parts ALSO have to be restored. I have made HUGE progress over the years, even though it may seem that nothing is getting done.
For example, it took almost 3 years to have the Petrol Tank made.
No one else would make it. I have purchased ORIGINAL (and copies) of date coded Blueprints just to have other parts made. I guarantee you that most Vintage VW people would NEVER take on a KdF restoration, especially these days as parts prices have trippled.
EVERYTHING is different on KdFs. These are not your average cars, and I completely understand why all the others gave up trying to restore one of these. I've made a lot of head way. I'm doing it and doing it right.
If it wasnt for several friend's really helping me locate parts, I would be even further behind. Hopefully this explains some things.
It's not how long it takes that counts, only that it's done right. _________________ Feb 1944 KdF Type 82e.

Jim,
Are they 1944 or 1943 cars?
Of all the KdF Beetles I know of, only 2 are 1944 82e.
There must be more, I just don't know of them. _________________ Feb 1944 KdF Type 82e.

1n 1994 there where 4 cars registered
Vin 5033568 Jacky Morel ( France) Ex Göring Car
Vin 5034150 Lutz J. ( Germany)
Vin 5034993 Gernot Kollarz ( Austria)
Vin 5035164 Herman Walter ( Germany)
I don't know if these are still the owners, but they owned these cars in 1994 !
In that time 10 1943 typ 82's on the list !
So I was wrong thinking Walters car is a 42 its a 44

Thanks Guido,
I have most of those cars in my registry, but not all.
Of those cars you list (that I know about) only one is a 1944.
That is the ex-Jacky Morel/ex-Mac Jones 82e KdF.
(I heard Mac sold that car and it's still in the USA.)
The others on your list are from 1943, again only the ones I know about.
Thanks again Guido. _________________ Feb 1944 KdF Type 82e.

Guido,
I looked up the chassis numbers (on my master list) of some of the cars you mentioned.
Chassis# 5034150 is a 1944 82e (Lutz J., Germany)
Chassis# 5034993 is a 1944 82e (Gernot Kollarz, Austria)
I also found other info on these 2 cars that the owners may not know.
If anyone knows the owners, they can contact me and I can share that with them.
Thanks. _________________ Feb 1944 KdF Type 82e.

Hi Alex,
Do You know a book written by Dr. Ulrich Von Pidoll ?
There are a few lists in that book with The first owners from The KDF's !
And also a list from the owners in 1994 !
I can scan the lists if you want and send them to you !

Guido |

Guido,
I'm not familiar with that book. The author's name sounds familiar though.
A scanned copy would be great if you don't mind.
I'm trying to put together a list of all existing KdF cars, so that would help.
Thanks Guido. _________________ Feb 1944 KdF Type 82e.
