Is there a list or chart somewhere that shows the engine oil capacities for different engine sizes?(I.e. 2275 take 12 quarts)
I have a 2275cc engine and I have no clue how's much oil I need to put into it when I do my oil change. However I know I need at least 1.5 qts from my sump that's added on. If this has been answered I am sorry, but I used the search function above and was having difficulties finding and answer. Thanks in advance. |

Its a but of trial and error as people have differing capacities if oil sumps, hoses to and from full flow, coolers etc... Your vest bet would be to put the stock amount in plus your 1.5 quarts and check the dipstick. Run it and then check it again... Its not as simple as you might have hoped. |
Thank you you. That isn't probably the most constructive response I have had. Thank you |

Dude, what did you expect?
2.5 +1.5=4 qts. Start your engine and let it come up to temp. Shut it down and let it rest for ten minutes.
Check the oil level by
1- removing the dipstick wiping it then inserting it into the case.
2- Pull it back out and read the level again. Never trust the first look.
3- Add oil as needed to get it to the proper level by performing steps 1-2-3 until you have achieved the correct oil level.
It takes a little effort to get it correct. Different ACVW engine configurations can have different oil capacities. Mine does not hold 4qts. But it does take 3.5qts to get the oil to the full mark on the dipstick. _________________ I have learned over the years.

Lets see...
2.7 quarts main sump..
3.5 quarts in deep sump.
1(+) pints in small filter or 1.5 pints in long filter (for filter pump)...
That is just a tad bit under 7 quarts... Put in 6 and check dipstick and top up...

Actually it is the most constructive.
Displacement has nothing to do with oil capacity.
fill it to the top of the dipstick, run it for a minute and let it settle. then top it up.
It ain't rocket science. _________________ Glenn

At minimum, check it every time you fill up with gas too. |

I have also heard, with an external oil sump, NOT to fill to the top mark...Ive been told to only fill up halfway between the top mark and lower mark...How true is this? Cuz that's how ive been doing it. But if not, I have no problem filling up to the top mark... |

Man, you'll get a hundred answers on that one. Everywhere from bottom of the stick to the top mark and anything in between. Personally I go half way between the bottom and top mark on the stick. |

You could probably over fill it and be fine. How much oil bleeds off into the sump that isn't there when running? Just add the stock 3 ish, 1.5 for sump and 1 for filter. As long as the oil stays above the suction your good. If your in the marks your above the suction. |

My one engine, 1.5 qt sump full flowed with 1 qt filter. So my math is 2.5 qts+ 1.5 qts + 1qt = 5 qts. Now the engine like 4.5 qts and stays at that level.
Never over fill it. _________________ Volkswagen: We tune what we drive.
