I have a stubborn flashing temperature light on a new-to-me '95 campervan. Sometimes it's already on when I start it, but it usually comes on anywhere from seconds to a few minutes after. I haven't driven it any real distance yet, while I'm trying to figure out what's up. Obviously, it doesn't seem to be overheating, as it usually turns on when the engine is cold. I just replaced the overflow reservoir with it's coolant level sensor hoping that would fix it, but it's still flashing away. Any ideas? |

Check that the connector on the level sensor is firmly on and also check for terminal corrosion. I think you are in the right spot to sort this out _________________ πΊπΈ πΊπΈ πΊπΈ πΊπΈ πΊπΈ πΊπΈ πΊπΈ π π π |

All the connections look pretty clean, and according to the records that came with the van the coolant temperature sensors were both replaced right before I bought it. I'm thinking maybe it's an instrument cluster issue, so I removed the cluster but can't find any obvious problem areas. Because I'm not sure I can trust the instrument panel, I'm considering installing a universal coolant temp gauge for a little peace of mind. Anyone have any experience with this kind of install? It seems like most of the gauges on the market screw right into the engine block- makes the job seem a little terrifying to me... |

For whatever it's worth it is possible that new sensors/parts can be bad right out of the box. Might be worth testing/swapping with known good.
Sometimes it's the stupid things. This happened to me on the last rebuild; new power steering pump and oil pressure sensor were bad... Had me hunting for ghosts for a bit.
Any other electrical issues? Even ones that don't seem related? |
