You can just feel it. Prices are sliding....finally IMO. Still way too high, but just take a gander at things and it is so telling. Keep your powder dry and only fire when you see the whites of their eyes After the market tanks again after Powell lowers rates...game on suckers! |

Hahaha, you and I do think alike on this subject....but I need another project like a hole in the head. Anyhow, most cars are just sitting, but unless someone really has to unload, most of "us" old-schooler types will just sit on our cars and just as soon die before letting them go "too cheap."
And I've said it before and I'll say it again, I think most people are afraid of letting something go too cheap and then getting it flipped on them, so FOMO (Fear of Missing Out) on the proceeds they think should be coming their way and be damned to let somebody else profit off of their sale. But it's the flippers who will end up sitting on the cars.
Oh, and.....I would NOT wanna be selling a car right now. In fact, I hate dealing with ANY kind of selling, I just as soon give stuff to friends or family. _________________ My name's Steve and it's pronounced "Bust 'em" (cuz people think I'm Tom)

Haha maybe true, but that might be to the detriment of the hobby. I hear young people always say they would like to get into the hobby, but things are too expensive. We will see. Again, if prices plummet I will suffer on paper. Many people have such a low cost basis(like in the hundreds) they can wait a looong time I guess. Those that have bought in the last 5 years maybe not so much.
I just see so many cars listing now that you never ever saw on a public FS site. See the recently listed Italian T34 KG. Expensive yes, but a year ago it would have been double. |

When people pay a premium for anything "vintage" or antique you can be sure passion is at play. Passion is what causes people to forget how to do basic math and reach for their wallets.
An overcooked economy helps. It's easier to reach for your wallet when you have disposable income.
If I was in the market for a split window Bug I would buy a '40 Ford Tudor instead. I recently missed one at $6k, shiny paint, nice interior, no motor or transmission.
The pragmatic approach is to make a fearless and searching inventory of all your choices before you throw down.
Until recently vintage VWs have been relatively inexpensive cars that are relatively inexpensive to restore or modify. You can toss that right out the window if you need rust repair and / or you're paying someone else for body and paint.
Any time I'm spending real money I'm going to do my homework and get the best I can find at any given price point.
We might just price ourselves out of business. I notice a lot of muscle car enthusiasts aren't enthusiastic about project cars anymore.

VWs routinely sell off Samba at 1/3 to 1/2 samba ad prices.
If you think internet searching defines the market, you are the mark for these ads.
If I do another VW, Iβll buy a dry solid one and give skills his daughters college fund to redo itβ¦.and drive it till I croak _________________ πΊπΈ πΊπΈ πΊπΈ πΊπΈ πΊπΈ πΊπΈ πΊπΈ π π π |
