My new (and first) Westy project. Lots of work ahead, but I'm excited about it. I've got the rear bumper and original wheels and caps also.

Took a closer look inside yesterday and took stock in my undertaking. Seems that all is there, except the step stool and I have an extra (later model?) ice box and upper cot and some various panels and wood pieces. Even have the child's cot. Wood panel needs refinishing on roof and the driver side piece along the floor needs replacement. Driver & Passenger seats need complete rebuild. Westy seats all seem ok, just filthy.

I put the pop top up, the tent seems to be original (no side screens) and is completely bombed. cot is in place and there is another cot inside the van. I'm hoping to put the bigger, later model "bed" up there when I get to that point. The tree scale on the top is heavy, but a red scotchbrite pad removed it quite well when I did a test patch. I plan on doing the repaint using something like the Rustoleum method once I get it off the roof. The luggage rack is all there.

Corrugated middle floor is rusted where in joins the front cabin and there is a hole in the driver floor. Underside looks crusty but functional. Looks like the TIG will be doing work on this baby in a couple of spots. Is that area a common spot to rust? Almost seems as if water had stood/ran along that area, maybe from a leak in the water tank or from icebox? As it was under the rubber mat that covered the floor, I'm thinking it wasn't noticed until it was bad.

One spot of rust out in the heater tube right before the transition to the front wye. The wye is insulated however, and needs further inspection.

Slider needs some roller work, and since it was not the original and seems to have come from a standard bus, the jalousie window needs mounting.

Mega things to do, and I've just gotten started. Rained like crazy last night, so I didn't get as far as I liked, but there is always tomorrow. Going to be a LOT to do, and I'm trying to establish a plan to do this in a logical systems manner.

Pics to follow: my phone died last night.

Westfalia Tag reads "Campmobile 70 2.04692"

I need to get the seat/bed out and inspect the floor issue there.

The Westy was delivered in Huntington, W VA and lived there with it's first owner and according to the service stamps, made a trip to Nevada early in its life and then back to W VA. Also found registration from a different owner from Florida and then the same person in Missouri. It's now in Kansas and will hopefully stay here except for some sojourns out along the road.

Funny that it was delivered to the Port of New Orleans, and then sold way up in W VA. I had hoped that it might have been delivered at the Port of Lake Charles, LA, because when I was in high school there, I used to work occasionally, driving them off the transports and onto a huge lot where they would go on to all places. Cool work for a gear head kid.....
