Hey guys, I have a poly tank in by buggy that is not vented. To provide the tank with the necessary venting I tried using a vented cap. This provided the venting but also allows fuel to splash out of the vents and out of the tank. The tank is only about 1/2 full and it is still doing it. I imagine this is because the tank is just a cylindrical fuel cell with no baffles or real filler neck of any kind. the cap sits about 3/4 of an inch from the fuel line when the tank is full. I am looking for a non vented cap that is one piece that I can attach a hose barb to and run a hose for venting like on many dirt bikes and four wheelers. Any other solutions? I thought maybe a screen filter at the fill nozzle would cut down on some splashing but am having trouble finding one to fit the 3.5" wide filler hole. The other option I have come up with is to tap the tank like I would the cap and vent with a hose from there and just use a non-vented cap. The only real problem with this is that I'd rather not have to cut into my only gas tank. Any ideas?

The tank I am using is one of these:https://www2.cip1.com/ProductDetails.asp?ProductCode=C26%2DTKPS1030BK

drill the cap. Install a barbed fitting and install a rubber hose to allow vapors fuel splash to drain?

Thats the ideal scenario. I bought a couple different caps that will fit. Finding on that has some meat on it to tap is the issue. Most john deere riding mower caps are the same size.

Go to a hydraulic shop tell them what you're doing and ask for a barbed bulkhead fitting. See if they make one with a reversion valve in it, then you won't need to thread the cap. And with the reversion valve you won't have to worry about fuel pouring out of the vent in a rollover.

Another option I have used is metal valve stem....

Ditch the schrade valve and use as barbed fitting...

Does no have to be mounted in cap IF you are willing to drill tank...

Though Slalom Buggy idea seems best...

One more thing - run your vent hose up and put a loop in it if not using the check valve...

So this is my 1st iteration of the cap to vent and prevent spillage. Some may be familiar with this. It is a valve commonly used on dirt bike gas tanks to prevent spillage while upside-down. I later found that I only have about 1.5-2” of room from the top of the tank to the trunk lid so this hose has been shortened. Will go hit some bumps on my lunch break to see how it does.

You could trim the brass barb back a bit also. Makes it less obtrusive when taking the cap off the tank.
