Just wondering if anyone can recommend a trustworthy mechanic for some work on a 1974 Type 2? The last stream on this was in 2005 so wanted any new opinions out there. Thanks in advance

I think BusDaddy is from that area. You might befriend him for an answer

Go to Ed from the Bug shop or Adria on Broadway

A friend of mine just had some work done to his bus at Adria's and was happy with the service. The place has been around for a very long time... I remember going there in the late '90s.

Give Ed a call and tell him Chris said hello from Whitehorse. (604)589-2236

I am sure Adria is good too, I just don't know them.

Thanks!

Chris

I live in Vancouver and cant recommend Adria, Had lots of trouble with them last time I took my van there...

I took my van there after getting it running and driving after it had been sitting for 20 years for them to do a checkover/adjustments. I made an appointment to get it towed in on a certain day figuring they would start working on it that day and they didnt even touch it for 3-4 days. When I got it back, I drove to Canadian Tire on cambie to get new wiper blades and I arrived in a huge cloud of smoke! Had a look under the van and one of the valve covers was put on crooked and pouring oil out. I called Adria and Mark said just drive it back and they will fix it. I bought a long screwdriver to pop of the valve cover hold down and re-center it and drove it back in a even larger cloud of smoke!

So they fixed that and steam cleaned the engine and the underside that had oil sprayed everywhere, couple more days and I picked it up after they had closed and it had a dead battery Sad So I had to call a bunch of my friends and see if they could give me a jump.

I could go on with other stories from other people...

I think their problem is being too busy (theres always tons of vans parked out front and down the street) and trying to pump them out as fast as possible instead of going a little slower and doing quality work. So now I just do most of the work on my van myself...

What kinda work are you looking to get done on your van? Im always happy to meet more local vw owners! Send me a PM!
