Wanted to make it right before I put my 65 on the market. I felt there was some clutch slippage and lousy shifting when I was driving it. Got it back from the shop after the transaxle was gone through and a new clutch installed. Was told by the by vendor he put about 10 miles on it and felt everything was great. On my home, about a 45 mile drive, after 15 or so miles driving I started hearing a whining noise like a bearing every time I pushed the clutch in and held it down. Tried again after I got home and let it sit for a while and it was quiet for the first few miles then I started getting the same bearing noise when the clutch pedal was depressed and held down.
Also have some fairly conspicuous oil puddles under it after sitting for a few minutes, not leaking from the boots or the fill or drain plugs that I can see, perhaps coming from the area where the engine and gearbox mate. And there was no oil puddle under when I picked it up from the shop. Not sure what failed now, but tired of putting money into it.
So, my question is, do I drop the price and sell it like is, or dump another couple of thousand in it before I try to get rid of it.
I really hate to have someone else end up getting a mess like I did, but not sure of the best way to get rid of it. Any suggestions? |

I would also have a talk with the tranny people who did the work and ask whether they put in a new TO bearing. They have been known to come loose.
Seems like their warranty should cover this.
If you (or a knowledgeable friend) can drop the motor, and replace the TO bearing and probably the flywheel seal, you can fix it cheap.
If not, it may be worth selling as-is to someone who can do those repairs themselves. |

Yes, this would amount to under $50 in parts, including shipping. Even less if the parts are available locally.
If fixing it yourself isn't an option, just be honest and up front about what the issues are and try selling it as is. _________________ '63 Ragtop (current)
