2110 dual port with dual Weber IDF 40s,
I just discovered a fuel leak that drips off of the left side of the engine bottom next to the oil plate (off the corner). Only when the engine is running.
When I look underneath the base of one of the cylinder jugs is wet with gas. Engine is hard to start but once warmed up it idles well. Slight hesitation of the line when driving.
I’ve checked all of the fuel lines and all around the left carb. This is really starting to drive me nuts.
Any ideas? Thanks. |

Check your oil level ...
It could be a fuel metering needle letting loose (it probably is anyway), but it may be filling the sump with fuel.. _________________ Ancient vehicles and vessels

Oil level seems fine. Probably needle and seat like you said but just wondering where it could be flowing from. Base of cylinder jug where it enters the case is wet with gas but it is only gas. No oil |

Thinking about it - what if it is running down the hidden front of the left hand intake manifold from a carburettor throttle spindle, then running along under the head tinware from left to right towards the engine block itself , or dripping down partway along the tinware somewhere where it gets blown back towards the block. _________________ Ancient vehicles and vessels

Stock fuel pump or electric? How about a pic? Just asking, because I’m guessing there’s a fuel tee and or a regular involved? The drip could be far from the actual source. _________________ 1973 standard, yellow, lowered, 3” narrowed front, 1600 blo-thru turbo w/single dell 15.4@86, so far

Here’s a pic. Gas drips off of the circled corner (drivers side towards front of car) at a rate of about one drop every three or 4 seconds only when running. After drying there is some oil in it. Changed mechanical fuel pump to rebuilt pierburg but still drips. Engine ran fine on stand with no drips. I went over all fuel lines and cannot find leak. Seems like it it dripping from around base of cylinder 4 (could be coming from above maybe).
Only other thing I can think of besides bad float or needle is when I installed the engine into the car, I have to remove the carbs and intake manifolds so it would fit then reinstalled them. If gasket is leaking I can’t understand the path the fuel may be taking. I have carb rebuild kits on order. Going to rebuild both carbs and reinstall intakes and carbs with different gaskets. I’m going to turn green and lose it if that doesn’t work.

From the yellowish staining on that nonstandard perforated pushrod tube protector plate, it looks like fuel is running towards the engine block across the plate then dripping out of the three holes nearest the block.
Take the plate off, its not doing much work with the car standing still and see where the drips come from then.
It probably is blocking a fair amount of cooling air in any case. _________________ Ancient vehicles and vessels
