Doing a resto on my 87 Syncro and have decided to replace the old fridge. For the life of me I canít find a stainless door option (or have no idea which model fits). I have searched the millions of posts here but only have so much mental bandwidth to scour for an answer. Any suggestions?

If the face is flat, you could easily cover with stainless sheet

You're probably thinking the Dometic CRX50. I can also highly recommend the Vitrifrigo c50i. Shallow enough that it doesn't stick out like the truckfridge. And the stock grey is a very close match to westy grey.

The colored faceplate can easily be replaced with a sheet of stainless in most (all?) fridges. My point being that other purchase criteria can be prioritized other if you know that they all can be changed to a stainless front.

Or visit marine oriented stores. It appears there are plenty of stainless options (priced with marine markup):

Lots of stainless look vinyl options...if all you're going for is the look.

Cut a panel to size and install it into the fridge door.
All the fridges (I think) are designed to slip a panel into the door.

Actual brushed stainless steel: 24ga stainless steel brush finish 24"x24" sheet $49.40

Or order a 4x8 sheet of Formicaģ "stainless look" from HomeDepot $79
You can reuest a sample of M2178 laminate from Formica.

Well, after reading this thread I ordered a sample of Formica M2178 Stainless Steel.

I got a SMOKING DEAL on a damaged house refrigerator and have been pondering how to make it look nice.

The sample finally came the other day and I rushed out to the garage to see how the formica compared with Whirlpool brushed door.

I am thrilled to report that it is a dead ringer for the stock steel, maybe a tad different on the gloss factor but not far off at all!

Bottom Line?

Feel free to order this product for your camper door!
It WILL look like real brushed stainless!

Sample is wedged above the ref door handle......

^^^ So this is a Formica product that looks a lot like stainless but isnít stainless ? What are the key benefits for the Formica product? Cost? Cutting, shaping, workability?

Or is this Formica with a thin stainless laminate, i.e. itís actually brushed stainless? Which Iím guessing still offers benefits of lighter weight, improved workability, etc. and might be a better product if, say, I wanted to make do R cards out of stainless (which isnít on my to do list).

Thanks.

Formica, no metal. Cheaper, easier.

Not sure about the no metal part. I'd hazard a guess that it is a very thin metal embedded in the rosin sandwich that is formica.

I'm headed home to NJ to beat tomorrow's Winter weather arrival.
I've got snow plows to hookup and snow blowers to get out.

I'll peel a little of the sample with a razor knife and see what it is inside.

I have a LOT of tools, but am sadly lacking in sheetmetal step shear and a brake.
For me, gluing formica on and carefully filing it is the easy route to a decent repair.
When finished, this brand new $2,500 refrigerator will cost me about $300 out the door....... I can deal with a few repairs at this price.

I've seen a LOT of dented stainless appliances, I think the metal used is so very thin that it doesn't take much to inflict an irreparable dent or scratch.

With Stainless being so prone to dents and scratches, I would think that using the formica for the door would be superb!
We all carry "stuff" and "stuff" tends to not always stay where it was put!

EZ Faux stainless steel vinyl.

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00BAUPS9M/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o08_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

As it turns out Formica has discontinued their stainless laminate.
Looking at the sample I was sent it is a dead ringer for the real stuff!
They were also charging a kings ransom for it, a frighteningly huge sum of money!

Anyway, I stumbled upon the EZ Faux product and ordered it on a whim.

Not perfect but absolutely acceptable!

Take care installing it and you will be thrilled with the result!
