I have a NOS stationary engine, the i want to use in my 56.
But I heard it will self destruct because of the magneto's ignition curve.
Any truth in that? |

Replace magneto with distributor... OR have magneto advance recurved to fit you needs...

Ok but that was not the question.
Will it self destruct?
And why?
If i have the magneto re-curved, what will the curve be?
I can understand that the ignition can cause bad performance, and if you don't have enough advance it will go hot.
But a Stationary engine Magneto will have 12,5 degrees at 1750 rpm, and that is similar to the 019 distributor, as i understand it.

Why would it "self destruct"... Stationary is a application for engine for most part not a design...

I'd be more concerned about a engine that sat for 50+ years. Valve springs, cam and rings.
The magneto will not cause it to fail but it will most likely not run well at low rpm and under load. _________________ Glenn

A Magneto is not a problem as such. Think of the 181 things for the military. Many of the earlier ones used,,,,, - Magneto´s.
But yes you should recurve the advance curve to something that resembles a street distributor. 009 or 010 or whatever the engine likes.
Also, remember that the Magneto has a relatively weak coil, so you should regap your plugs to 0,5 mm. Then you should be fine.
