|
|
| Has anyone used the magnetic pickup in the magnaspark to trigger an MSD box? I just hooked up mine and I can get one spark on the initial crank, and then nothing. It worked fine with the only 010 using the points to trigger the box, but nothing with the magnetic pickup. I tested the pickup wire on the box per the MSD instructions and it sparks every time, but only once when hooked up to the distributor. |

You need to use the green and violet to trigger the msd box. You were using the white previously on the points.
Violet is +
Green is - _________________ [email protected] MPH 1/4 Mile & 8.1 @ 83.7MPH in 1/8 Mile with Mild Type 1 VW Mag Case 2234cc commuter engine in stock weight bug w/only .491 total lift(CB2292 Cam), 42x37 heads, 48idf's, Street tires, Belt on, Mufflers, Pump gas, video of the run here: https://youtu.be/M3SPqMOKAOg

| Yes, I removed the white wire and wired the red and black from the distributor to the purple and green input on the MSD. Still only one spark on initial crank, then nothing. |

I think something is up with your power lead. Did you change it? I would next have a volt meter on your ignition going to your box and have someone try to start the car and see what it does. _________________ [email protected] MPH 1/4 Mile & 8.1 @ 83.7MPH in 1/8 Mile with Mild Type 1 VW Mag Case 2234cc commuter engine in stock weight bug w/only .491 total lift(CB2292 Cam), 42x37 heads, 48idf's, Street tires, Belt on, Mufflers, Pump gas, video of the run here: https://youtu.be/M3SPqMOKAOg

Call CB and ask why their Magnaspark won't trigger the MSD box....
What model distribuitor do you have.....Is it the one with just magnetic module?

Magnaspark works fine with a msd box, I am using one as are at least 5 of my customers. Red wire in msd(small one) is key power, as is the red on the ms, the black wire on the ms goes to the white trigger wire on the msd. You can ust the magnetic trigger by removing one of the pick ups in the dist. Mark Lawless can explain that one better than I. _________________ There are no stupid questions, only stupid people,

IF I understand you comment correctly one wires it (Magnaspark) as if it were a Compufire or Pertronix module?

Since the purple/green wire to the magnaspark magnetic pickup doesn't work as planned, perhaps wiring it like the pertronix setup may work. I guess the magnetic pickup in the magnaspark doesn't work like on a domestic setup? |

My bad, I thought the magnaspark was wired same as msd and other mag pick up style distributors. _________________ [email protected] MPH 1/4 Mile & 8.1 @ 83.7MPH in 1/8 Mile with Mild Type 1 VW Mag Case 2234cc commuter engine in stock weight bug w/only .491 total lift(CB2292 Cam), 42x37 heads, 48idf's, Street tires, Belt on, Mufflers, Pump gas, video of the run here: https://youtu.be/M3SPqMOKAOg

Exactly! If you want to use the mag pick up in put on the msd you can by eliminating 1 of the pick ups in the dist. I dont remember which at the momment but Mark at CB will tell you. _________________ There are no stupid questions, only stupid people,

| I called CB last week to confirm. The Magnaspark has a spark generator or something inside of it along with the magnetic pickup, so you need to wire it like a pertronix box or it will not work. I did not ask and they did not say anything about eliminating one of the units to make it work as strictly a magnetic pickup unit. |
