Is there a method to finding the vehicles garaged for decades?
Or do you think it's just by the grace of God that The Barn Finds actually finds you - much in the say way you walk down the street and notice a five bill on the ground? |

There was a similar question asked about finding 'abandoned' Buses in the Split forum last week. I'd say pretty much the same rules / suggestions / tactics apply to barn finds. Check it out.

I don't know if there is a good method but off the top of my head based on how I've found out about local cars in garages that I didn't know existed:
* Word of mouth - People at your work, friends of friends, etc. that know you are into VWs
* Drive around on the weekend where people might have their garages open
* Hitting garage sales, same idea. Wearing a VW T-shirt can help to start conversations
* Bike riding around neighborhoods can give you a slower cruise by houses where you can often see into backyards too.
* Driving a VW can lead to finding more of them _________________ How to Post Photos

Ask the mail carrier they know where all the cars are and they also know what kind of people live on the route just looking at what Mail they get. |

It also happens when the old timer passes away and the family is suddenly left with cleaning the property up.
Barn finds are not always the golden stories you hear about. Many times they are just another pile of rusted junk.
I racing buddy owns a wrecker service. He is always digging up old classic cars. _________________ 2017 Street Comp Champion - Thunder Valley Raceway Park - Noble, OK

All the above... plus
* Joining multiple local car club's and spreading the word around
* Posting fliers at local Car Shows / Swap Meets & local establishments with community boards. |

I found my Squareback a year ago in the auto parts section of Craigslist. The guy I bought it from got it the year prior when the OG owner passed. He had to get rid of it. $500 for a complete OG Squareback, one owner, parked in a barn since 1976, 36,000 miles, no accidents, original paint and a little rust. Just look in the least likely of places. I think Craigslist can be a good spot as it has severely dropped in use since they started charging for car ads so good stuff can sit a long time and not be discovered. _________________ 1964 sunroof Beetle Restoration "Herbie"
