Help
This has been a problem since I owned this car. The accelerator tube pushes out into the engine bay - Per the picture there is a clamp there but doesn't seem to do anything. What is the correct connection. I have the flexible tube - - is this supposed to go over the hard tube that runs through the fan shroud? Is there a better solution available. What parts do I need? I hope this can be fixed with the engine in.

The tube that runs through the shroud should be flared at the carburetor end so it doesn't pull through the shroud. I've seen and experienced the flared end eventually wallow/pull through the hole in the shroud. An easy fix is to remove the tube and find a washer you can slide up the tube to the flared end and then re-install. On the back side of the engine you can put one hose clamp on the tube snuggly up against the rear tin, keeping the tube from moving back and forth. The bowden part of your accelerator cable should just fit over the end of the tube, there's nothing securing it. _________________ Beetle, Ghia, Vanagon Syncro, and more |

Thanks
I have done most of the jobs in a Ghia. I managed to loosen the little clip in the hard tube and slide it up. Apparently this is a trick to stop the tube from sliding out at the engine side. I then managed to slide the rubber tube (has Aden as Ke end ) over the hard tube and it seems to be good. Thankfully I have a hoist. I may still order a new flexible tube. _________________ 2x 1974 Karmann Ghia Coup

In 30 years of wrenching on aircooled VWs I've only seen one of the accelerator bowden tubes, and that's on the ghia I currently own. _________________ Beetle, Ghia, Vanagon Syncro, and more |

yes - i guess it protects the cable from dirt etc. not the smoothest system though - but it works... but not easy to replace . _________________ 2x 1974 Karmann Ghia Coup
