Hello!
My name is Cliff. I am new to this forum, and I thank you for having me. I hope everyone is doing great!
I have been reading the forum for a while to learn more about these cool cars. I had a few Beetles many many years ago, but I have recently been bitten by the VW bug again! And I hope soon to be able to acquire a nice older Beetle or Karmann Ghia.
I do have a question: I have seen a few pictures of Karmann Ghias that have rows of vents in the front hood lid. One car had two rows of vents, and another had six rows of vents. What is the purpose and history of this? Is it purely a cosmetic thing, or does it help with directing airflow to someplace? It seems like it would allow rain to get into the front trunk storage area. I don’t get it, but I am sure its function is something that my ignorant self isn’t aware of. I have been searching for info on this but I can’t find any. I figure if anyone knows about this it will be on this forum.

I see. Thank you! And “louvered” is a better word than “vents”.

I don't get it either. Because getting water into the trunk is the only thing that would be good for.
