I was curious if there was a slick place to mount extra gauges on the oval without cutting up my virgin dash? I was thinking of running a motometer plate with autometer gauges. Will I have to do any dash trimming? Anyone done this? Pics would help. My only other idea was to mount them on the tunnel?

You will have to cut your dash if you choose the Motometer Panel. It is not easy to do correctly and will take you a couple of hours. I would not suggest it unless you really want that look.

VDO has one of those mounting plates for the guages. You'd have to drill some wholes on the underside of the dash. They look pretty cool too. Or i think ive seen someone in here who plased them on their parcel tray. I dont know how the kept them from rolling around
Maybe one of these will be to your liking http://www2.cip1.com/SearchResults.asp?Cat=1762

Here's what you need to do to your dash. Not a pretty sight:

Search is your friend. I put them on my parcel tray on that works pretty good. I used zip ties to secure them the webing.

Here's a post with some info/pics:

Coad's picture is about right------What it doesn't show is the sprained wrist when that drill bites. Never again!!!!!!! Confused

Here's a clean solution. Get a MotoMeter or VDO gauge holder that straps onto the steering wheel column. It's a period accessory, looks good, can be adjusted to suit your driving position and can be removed in 5 minutes if you change your mind:

That's the route I'm taking on my car. Holds most standard sized German gauges froom the 50's and 60's.

I've just picked up a whole bunch of original 1950's VW tech bulletins & VW themselves reccomend cutting a f*ckin great hole in your oval dash. It even shows pics & tells you how to do it. EEK! Shocked

also a nice place to fix gauges in your dash is in the glove box door ( ned also much work but is replaced in 5 minutes into original condition)

for motometer gauges or vdo you have to maka a very big cut in your dashboard....

an other nice method ist this
http://www.vw-reeder.de/seiten/picszub/ac25.jpg

you have to drill only two times to fix it under the dash...
