This is a late '60s version of the Picnic radio. Blaupunkt had two earlier versions: The Derby and the Nixi-----The Derby had one more band and otherwise was identical . The earliest ones were a blue-grey and ivory color followed by a grey and ivory color followed by a black and ivory color. The black and ivory color had two extra wheels for tone and reception. Your's is the later version with the two wheels below the knobs. The radio came with a tray that attached to the underside of the dash and converted the power to play off the car's battery. Without the tray and given your description of condition; I would guess around $200. With the tray and in your condition I have seen $450. Be very careful of the antenna. The are weak and break easily. The little plugs on the side were for extra speakers and earphones, but I have never seen them myself. |

Here's a good page for german portable radios:
http://www.antikradio.privat.t-online.de/koffer.htm
If you need the special accessory plugs for speakers and inputs they are available here:
http://www.koenigs-klassik.de/indexe.html
They are not cheap, but they deal in english, and they have all the hard to find parts for German radios (including those fragile antennas.)
If you need tubes, transistors, speakers, etc., this is the place to check first:
http://www.tubesandmore.com/
And, if you need original grill cloth for a super authentic restoration, feast your eyes on these samples:
http://www.grillecloth.com/pages/about.html
And, if whoever you get to fix your radio needs a wiring diagram (and their books probably won't have 1950's german radios in them), then these guys can provide one for a modest fee:
http://www.everythingradio.com/Schematic_Diagrams2.htm
Now, you have no excuse not to get that wonderful old tube set working like new

You can also go to German eBay and get an idea of price. Type in Blaupunkt Derby. You will need to add about $35 for shipping but you will get a good idea for what your's is worth. |
