IMHO the myth regarding #3 cylinder failure.
Doghouse type I and type IV engines are exempt from the old in-the-shroud oil cooler issue actually responsible for the oft parroted un-true tale. _________________ I Corinthians 4: 1 thru 5

well, seems to me that 3-4 valve failure is still on the list in T1 or T4 flavor.
I think this one is true:

This. Ohmygod this. Heard it back when you could still buy an ACVW new at the dealer. Remember when my dad was making the deal to trade in our old, rotted out Square for a nice, new 411. Salesman told him it had a Porsche engine in it and pointed out all the similarities to the 914 that was in the showroom. I was 6 and believed ever word of it. My dad? Nah. Plus, he was a high school math teacher, didn't give a shit about that stuff anyway.
Last fall a guy stops by after seeing my bus in the front yard and goes on to tell me about the "bug he had just like that one but it had a Porch <sic> engine in it and could carry the wheels 50 feet." All you can do is just smile sadly and nod... _________________ 1979 Transporter (sold)

ACVW don't have a cooling system, or you need to stop every "X" number of miles and let the engine (or tranny) cool down. |

During the sixties when VW were at their peak of popularity a typical American car got 12-14 miles per gallon so when a bug got 24 or a bus got 20 it was a major improvement. Today the old VW may not even do that well but many people think that they use less fuel than a modern rig getting 30+ mpg for a car or 25 mpg for an SUV. |

"Its the mystery machine!"
… no.
or "Those are so simple to work on! must be nice!"
no, ford trucks are simple and easy to work on. an acvw you have to actually pay attention and make sure everything is adjusted. After you take out the engine.

1 - This bolt on bus accessory will give you the power you want.
2 - This will make your bus engine run a lot cooler without any major other work.
3 - This bolt on accessory will stop a strong wind from blowing your bus all over the place.
4. Lean forward and you can go uphill faster. _________________ George Carlin:
