|
|
My 84, recently purchased, has developed a stalling problem. It happens 5 minutes after start up, while driving. A stumble/bog occurs and 10 seconds later engine stalls. After waiting for 10 minutes, it starts right up and operates normally. When I bought vehicle, a few things were needed. ISU was by passed, charcoal canister by passed. Those were both added back into circuit. Timing set, valves adjusted, plugs changed. Grounds cleaned and repaired. Compression check showed 135/130/140/135. Idle is fairly consistant at 850. Runs great, power is good. No other issues.
Any ideas on stalling issue? _________________ '84 Transporter 16" CLK's/LED's/ AT's/Mansi injectors

Check the wiring to the hall effect in the distributor or could be the hall effect itself. _________________ 1984 Vanagon GL

How fast & far are you driving in those 5 minutes?
Do you really have to wait 10 minutes before it restarts? i.e., it will not restart immediately?
Does it eventually settle down and run fine - or does the problem recur indefinitely as you drive? |

I am going 30, which doesn't take me far, then I feel the first bog, then stops running, just dead, no stuttering, stumbling.

I try immediately, but only 3-5 seconds. Vehicle usually starts right up.

I drove it for 10-15 min stopped, started up in 15 min and did not happen again. Haven't had time to get out and go.
Would by passing ISU, make a difference?
Cracked wiring in dizzy, that's what I should look for? _________________ '84 Transporter 16" CLK's/LED's/ AT's/Mansi injectors

My digijet was giving me intermittent starting issues. However it would huff and puff trying to start. It turned out to be the idle control unit - but in your case where it is not huffing and puffing I'm not sure if it will help. It wouldn't hurt to try! _________________ Brandon

Hmm, Temp Sensor 2 going out of value or Open Circuit when just out of Cold Engine spec?
Don't know, just tossing that out there since you can restart it a bit later and you're okay then. _________________ '68 Westy- my first VW and vehicle/Bus- long gone.- sold it to a traveling Swiss couple....

I'm going to try the ISU by pass now.
leaning toward toward templl sensor, can I run unplugged or need a proven one? _________________ '84 Transporter 16" CLK's/LED's/ AT's/Mansi injectors

By passing Idle stabilizer worked, no stall. Seems a bit low on idle speed... _________________ '84 Transporter 16" CLK's/LED's/ AT's/Mansi injectors
