I've taken out dual port intake manifolds but never the single ports. I need to replace my old one. Just need help on what is the process on this. Dual port removal looks to be a lot easier then what I can tell with single ports. I've googled and searched this forum with no luck. Videos or pictures are always a plus.
Thanks,
Paul |

Single port manifold R&R is pretty similar to the dual ports. 10mm wrenches, sockets are needed for the 6.0mm x 1.0mm nuts, and there is no center engine attachment like on the dual ports. Single port manifolds use a round copper seal at the top of the cylinder head, make sure to remove the old one from the cylinder head though !!!
Start the nuts on all areas first before tightening any. _________________ 1970 VW (owned since 1972) and 1971 VW Convertible (owned since 1976), second owner of each. I understand all of that. My issue is with the dual port, I was able to do it with the engine still in the car and remove nothing else.
With the single port, it looks like I will have to take the generator stand off also to get it off. Am I wrong on that? |

| And I seem to recall that the copper washers are split on one side. That side goes DOWN into the head. |

Why not just drop the engine?
It only takes a half an hour. If you have done it a few times.
It's a hell of allot quicker to drop an engine. Than removing the decklid, hinge mounts, generator, FS. What a pain in the ass!
My best time on an engine/trans removal. Was 45 minutes from start to finish. By myself. No other help!
But I was 33yo then. Now 59
Things take a little bit more time to get completed these days.
Once the engine is out. You can address anything else that is bothering you.
Oil leaks, and the like.
Also you can clean up any wiring issues that are plaguing your engine from running correctly, or faulty tail, brake light crap.
Good Luck. _________________ I have learned over the years.

I agree with 67 rust. Much easier to drop the engine. Then you can clean up/inspect/do other little maintenance while it's out.
But it's your row to hoe. Attack it how you wish. |

| Dropping the engine isn't a issue. Guess since I'm taking the generator out now, it's the perfect time to do a alternator conversion while it's out. Thanks for all the help. |

I'd only do that if I had a bad generator, or was converting from 6V to 12V. I run generator in my 1970 and my 1971. _________________ 1970 VW (owned since 1972) and 1971 VW Convertible (owned since 1976), second owner of each. Not sure how you removed a DP manifold with the generator still in the car. Perhaps it was not a stock manifold or had removable preheater pipes.
For the stock DP manifold, you need to remove the generator. _________________ 1971 1302LS Convertible (RHD) owned since '74

| It's been many years ago. I know the car when I bought it had a double barrel webber carb setup on it. Then I put a after market stock setup on it that had removable heat risers. |
