have a '65 beetle,i turn it on weekly or every 2 weeks but lately i have to give it a jump to getit going,battery is not even 2 years old.Did the disconnecting negative terminal test and stayed running.Is this charging system the same as a watercooled system,sorry if i sound a little naive but just not sure,appreciate any feedback.thanks |

This is a HORRIBLE thing to do. And TRIPLY horrible if your VW had been updated to an alternator, because doing that would likely fry your alternator. And not such a good idea on a generator-equipped vehicle. Where did you ever read/hear that was a good idea !!!!
Voltmeter across battery terminals while running can tell you that the charging system is working; understand that those are free to $15, but that's what's needed.
