I don't blame you one bit. They should replace and pay for shipping, not send crummy parts and hope you don't notice. _________________ 2019 Golf Alltrack, '65 Ghia Coupe Restoration in Progress |

Months later I finally have these mounted on my bug. They look great but the fitment for the hubcaps were extremely difficult to pop on. My hubcaps are OG so I shouldn’t be surprised with aftermarket rims. That’s really my only complaint

Marina Blue? I had a 73 bug the same color. Wheels look good, though. I guess it's hit or miss with whatever they send you. _________________ 2019 Golf Alltrack, '65 Ghia Coupe Restoration in Progress |

Just an update to my bent wheels issue. After weeks of back and forth with cip and countless pictures and descriptions, they deemed the bends a "normal occurrence" and are no cause for a warranty return. So be warned, what you get is what you get with them. I will not be doing business with cip in the future. |
Do you have pictures of the bad wheel?
I have friends in the wheel business and talking to them about quality steel wheels for all makes of vehicles yours is not an isolated problem. If you can find wheels that at least spin true you are doing good. I've gone through 11 wheels for a Honda I was working on trying to get 4 that didn't shake the owner like a paint can on the freeway. Even the winter wheels for my 2018 Colorado are far from perfect and watching them spin on a wheel balancer was kinda scary. Wobble side to side, lips are inconsistent, the wheels hop up and down. Unfortunately there is only one wheel available at this time for steel winter wheels.
I've returned or been credited on quite a few things from CIP1 and never had an issue.

I like the wheels, but the hub cap clips are pure crap. Just horrible.
I'm going to break mine down and install new clips then get them refinished maybe in a different color.
Does anyone have any recommendations for who sells the most "OEM-like" replacement clips?
Here's what they look like on my '60 Bug, with 195/60R15 BFGs:

Thank you--I am looking at online ads from AC.net and WW, and both look like decent "tall" type clips--may order a bunch from both places and use what I like best, keep the rest for spares.
I haven't read in detail thru all of the comments, but the clips that came on the wheels did not hold the caps on securely without a lot of attempted "re-shaping" with pliers, etc., and then they eventually break. I also lost one decent aftermarket chrome dome hubcap on a very busy I-95 bridge when I hit an expansion joint, and the thing went flying off.
I like the wheels, but the clips are just bad news. _________________ Stock Steve

Thank you! I LOVE how they look on your car also!
I have always wanted to try a "Herbie Look" for my car--totally pleased with the result (aside from the clips that is, ha ha!). I used them for a bit on my '70 Bug also (with adapters); will do my best to post a photo next chance I get.
And there was no way I was not going go with white letter tires! I don't know what availability is like these days, but it took me a long time also to acquire a set of 195/60R15 BFGs with white letters.
Still thinking about what color I might want to go with when I get them refinished. I will admit that gloss black is on the list...
Thanks again! _________________ Stock Steve

Here are the same wheels/tires, on my '70 Bug, with adapters:

Hey Nuz-z,
Do you happen to have these wheels? 14" Dan Gurneys with a mottled powdercoat finish. I think I sold them to your late step father several years back. And might you possibly be interested in selling them back to me?
The tires were sold by me to another person, so it's just the four wheels.
Thank you very much and best regards,
Steve in Branford (an old VW friend of Tom's) _________________ Stock Steve
