Hi, long time member, but not posting a lot
I bought this Oval in November 2018, I found it in a driveway abut 10 ks from my house, I used to see it under a tarp but then the tarp blew of so I saw it was an Oval. I just got it back from the panel beater, very pleased with how it turned out.
I was not sure what colour to paint it, but I went with a US colour Capri Blue. So I will get it back on the road some nice wheels and a little bit lower
It had already been modified a little,
1600 single port motor
later synchro trans
adjustable front beam with caster shims
KMac front sway bar
4 stud Beetle front disc brakes and Type 3 rear drums
the dash has holes in for gauges, a tacho and fuel gauge, I bought some Smiths gauges to fill in the holes.
My son has donated some wheels from his Jap wheel collection, they are Southern Ways mesh, he has more than 60 pairs, all in 15 inch. I will get the bolt pattern on the Beetle changed to 4x114.3 and have suitable sized lips put on the centres.
I also own a 300+ kW 73 Super Beetle so it will be nice have a classic cruiser.
Steve

I'm excited to see how it looks with the wheels. I've always thought a set of oldschool JDM 4x114.3 wheels could look cool on a bug. _________________ 36hp '56 European DeLuxe oval

Thanks, my son is into drifting and just keeps collecting cool old school wheels, I think these wheels will suit the car.
My Beetle has short rear axles so it should take a good size wheel, the front will need some thin lips |

Hi
I'm going for a 4 inch narrowed beam from Skinned Knuckles in Melbourne Australia, it will also be an air beam as well using modified lower trailing arms and air shocks, going bags on the rear. With a narrowed beam I can wider wheels on the front and still have some dish on the wheel |

Hi
I've been a bit caught up with other things. I will be back on the oval soon.
I did a test fit of the wheels and had them restored.
I changed the front wheels as the ones that I first tried had a different style centre. I bought another pair of fronts from Yahoo Japan.

Hi
I retired last year so I’ve been spending a bit of time on my Oval.
Its now running a 1916 with a SC12 supercharger, Haltech Nexus2 ecu and drive by wire and a Flex fuel sensor to run E85.
Its running a 4-inch narrowed beam with Monroe air shocks and bags on the back

yes, it works!
great job, even though I'm not a fan of lowriders or big motors (with tech I don't understand) I can see you've done a thorough job on this gem. _________________ "we're here on Earth to fart around" kurt vonnegut

I had the Oval tuned the other day on a dyno.
Engine specifications
1916. Stock heads 110 Engle cam (not ideal for a supercharged) and 1.25 rockers, Vintage speed exhaust. 4 LS coils, Dubshop crankangle sensor and CB cam position sensor. Haltech Nexus 2 ecu. 485cc injectors with a 5th injector before the supercharger and drive by wire.
SC12 supercharger with custom pulleys.
Best 98 RON run was 98.5 kW or 132 kW at 5550 rpm and 80% throttle.
We then swapped to E85 and did a few power runs but a gasket leak at the inlet manifold prevented anymore power runs, but it still made 108kW or 145.6 hp at the wheels on 90% throttle.
The best thing about the drive by wire is that the throttle can be used to limit boost. The drive by wire is also used as a rev limiter, it rolls the throttle off near redline before a fuel cut |
