We have a 1997 Eurovan Camper and the ECU has apparently died. Any ideas on where to find a replacement? P/N: 021906259M/021997259DX. There is one available on eBay, but I would rather not pay $1,995 for the part unless I have to. Thanks and any help is appreciated. |

just open it up and carefully look at the solder joints, sometimes the solder has dried out which makes bad contact, in that case it is sufficiten to resolder those points |

The Eurovan has been in and out of the shop for the past 8 weeks or so as they isolated the emissions issue. The MAS was replaced as it was faulty (likely due to the ECU). It was leak tested and everything is fine. I had the ECU "refurbished" and they reportedly replaced a few faulty capacitors. From my correspondence with them, "all circuits were tested", but not functionality. Had a master mechanic that specializes in VW troubleshoot and isolated the issue to the ECU. He also performed the "ECU reset" through an electrical discharge and still the same results.
The part number is 021906259M. I called the dealership and they provided an alternate PN of 021997259DX. Both are very scarce. I can find an ECU for a 97-01 Eurovan with a part number 021906259P, does anyone know if that would be a viable option? I'm guessing not.
Thanks! |

on older vans there is a difference between CA and other 49 states. Ask the seller what vehicle it came from .. Probably cheaper to try the ecu than to spend more money at the shop (that is if you can swap yourself).. worst case, sell it again on ebay.. |

Quick update. I found a service on eBay that provides VW ECU chips. For $200 I received a new chip with the software matching the ECU for a 1997 EuroVan Camper. Received today and installed. Runs like a totally different vehicle. Absolutely great response to the accelerator (for a EuroVan Camper). No excess exhaust smell. Emissions test next week, but all signs are positive at this point. I’ll let everyone know the final results. Thanks for all the input! |
