Hi Guys,
My first post here, and hopefully more to come in the future as i will be looking at a 1303S beetle and Karmann Ghia from 1963 both to restore.
The one thing is the ghia has its fog lights located at where normally the fresh air intake grills are placed.
I looked and looked on the inter webs but i cannot find a single picture of this specific front, i am absolutely sure its a 1963 era Ghia with no fog lights as standard. the later models do have fog light placed more to the center of the car and the ''i call it'' american style winglets coming from the center of the front running along the car to the back of the car.
I got no pictures right now, but from what i can understand is that the doors also don't have the indent directly behind the handle (to create room for your hand) the door is flat behind the grip.
If any of you have any idea's what this might mean, i am looking at the car tomorrow morning and i will record the serial number etc, and hopefully start a rebuild topic, i am planning on a full Restoration.
Thanks for your help

It sound like a typeIII Ghia or type 34. _________________ Everybody born before 1975 has a story, good, bad, or indifferent, about a VW.

I know the pic is just horrible
That is what is was thinking, thanks for the confirmation.
I think we will assess the damage tomorrow and see how much of a hack job they did.
I saw you can buy a replacement front nose, so if the car is in ik condition that’s the way to go. |

1968 was the first model year for the indent behind the door handle. '67 and earlier were all flat. _________________ Currently own:

Hi guys
I passed on the Ghia
I was in such a bad condition, the previous owner indeed ruined the front nose by adding those lights, they also welded shut a grill that was put in there some time in the past and it didn't look to good.
The floor was just welded over with steel plates, but not welded all round so water got trapped between the floor panel and the repair causing a lot of corrosion, i think that if you draw a line 5 cm up from the bottom all round the body it was very corroded.
But! i am now a pround owner of a 1303S beetle from 1972
Thanks for the help, i might start a topic about rebuilding the beetle |
