Jumped a dead battery in my '70 bus (had left lights on), and in the dim light managed to reverse the cables on the car that stopped to help. Started my engine, but it didn't sound right... went back to check and *DOH* realized what I'd done. Switched em back, started up again, but generator light came on and a couple minutes after disconnecting the engine stopped as the battery was dead. Fortunately I had an extra battery to get me home, but it's not getting charged. Any idea what I likely fried? Voltage regulator, or the generator itself?

Thanks for any ideas you can give me!

Voltage regulator probably need to be replaced. Make sure it matches generator for amperage, either30 or 38 Amp

Generator will be fine, might need to be polarized.

It would help to know if you actually have a generator, or if your charging system has been upgraded to an alternator.

Glad you mentioned the word "polarized!" Turns out that was all I needed to do. Thanks!

Yes, some day, when this genny dies for good I'll upgrade to an alternator Smile
