I've received an early bay reproduction floor for my '71 Camper restoration and was wondering if anyone has had any experiences or ideas regarding the installation. The floor was ordered from NLAVW:

The vinyl floor comes in a roll, which was somewhat unexpected. What makes this interesting is that the backing is a fibrous material similar to a type of very thin batting. I'd like to adhere this to a piece of 1/8" plywood which would give me the exact thickness I need above the sub-floor (I have sound-deadening material below the sub-floor). The problem is that I don't really know what to use to accomplish this. I've done plenty of veneering on this project, and the idea may be similar, but I'm not really sure as to what type of adhesive to use. I may also be wrong in assuming that this is intended to be adhered at all.
I did a search on theSamba and didn't really find anything pertaining to this, so hopefully the responses can help someone else as well. I've e-mailed NLAVW with the question last weekend and am awaiting a response. But I wanted to check to see if anyone has dealt with this already or has any input as to methods of installation or what adhesive to use. Any ideas would be much appreciated. |

that is exactly like how the OE floor was made. it kind of "floats" on the sub floor. I would use a vinyl floor adhesive. I have pulled many of those apart over the years, and the glue was either dead or not very strong, but it did (even old) have a cushioning effect to it
no matter what you do, glue or no glue it will swell/move with temperature changes. this was obvious around screw holes for the sink and the screw for the table leg...it will bunch up over time _________________

Thanks for the correction. I used to be a nice guy, then I ruined it by exposing myself to the public. |

Thanks for the info Skills, that helped quite a bit. I've been waiting for NLAVW to restock this vinyl for the last two years, and I didn't want to botch this after waiting so long. I used a multi-floor vinyl adhesive that was listed for use with felt-backed vinyl and laid the adhesive down with a 1/16" toothed adhesive trowel per the adhesive manufacturer's directions. After rolling it out, letting it dry for a day and trimming the excess material, it came out pretty decent (although I still need to trim the hole for the table leg):
