Engine is running great, perfect idle, good acceleration, 18-24 mpg, easy starting--except for a warm re-start more than 2 minutes and less than one hour after shutoff. We can restart reliably by shutting off ground to fuel pump and then cutting it back in when engine kicks. Good spark, smell of fuel. We are on the road. I have a new fuel pressure regulator. Worth trying? Any other ideas? Thanks!

classic symptom of leaking injectors... when you stop, the residual fuel pressure pushes gas out thru the injectors into your intake manifold, flooding for a warm restart. evaporates by the time of a cold restart.

have your injectors rebuilt, Mr. Injector is good. or run a bottle of Techron thru your fuel system for the sorta fix.

That would make sense, as the injectors are the last gate to go through. I imagine one bad one is not enough to cause enough flooding to prevent starting though. Maybe some bad gas? They are probably original though, so they would be suspect. Thanks for the advice.

Just one leaky injector would mean two cylinders get flooded, surely. That would be enough to make a very troublesome start.

with the varnish-forming schmoo in modern gasoline, this really is something to fix. it can cause a plastic build-up on the stem of the intake valves causing valve hang-up and THAT is hard to dissolve.

Thanks folks. I'll find some Techron, nurse it home, and get the injectors serviced, plus get a couple of spares.

Followup--I couldn't find Techron in the wilds of Yellowstone NP, but I did find a bottle of Sinclair's Dino Care jet fuel concoction. I filled the tank, ran 140 miles, and the flooding stopped. I will still be getting the injectors overhauled in the fall...

having cleaned injectors is one of the highest Return On Investment things you can do to these vans. you'll come back with OMG expressions of satisfaction.

once they are clean, run a bottle of Techron thru every 5k miles to keep the injectors clean and you won't need to send them out for a very long time while experiencing the joy of continually clean injectors. Techron isn't the only good cleaner, look for something with P.E.A.... Poly Ether Amine something or other. Gumout Regane (Rogaine?) has it as do some others but ya gotta do research.
