Does anybody have a source for these?
Working with a friend, we've added a tach & coolant temp gauge to the cluster of his engine-swapped '81 Adventurewagen. Used a cut-down JAMMA edge to mate with the factory plug for the warning lights and fuel gauge, and would like to use some of the otherwise unused pins for the tach and coolant temp gauge signals for neatness and ease of use if possible.
Thanks |

No, those particular spring pins are no longer available anywhere. What you can do however is find a junkyard van and cut the connector from 6 inches from the back of the seat belt dash warning light connector and use those pins because they are the same. Or if you don't care about your own seatbelt warning light, you can take them from there and splice them into your application. Don't forget to cap off the cut wires. _________________ '90 Carat w/ '95 phase 1 EJ22 OBD2 conversion |

Engine that went in is an ABA block with an early GTI big-valve head, installed with diesel Vanagon carrier bars, oil pan and bellhousing.
Thanks for the Brickwerks link, that gives me a part number and some clues -- I didn't even know where to start looking for this, TBH.
More digging. |

good luck. I went down this rabbit hole a long time ago. Brickwerks must have found some since then. I was in contact with amp with the discontinued part number and everything. Thats when i realized i could get them out of junker vans for free. _________________ '90 Carat w/ '95 phase 1 EJ22 OBD2 conversion |

I have found them in an AMP terminal catalog a few years ago. I will search through my files. _________________ Zoltan

I'm sure I have a few 14 pin connectors with short leads. PM me if you don't have any luck finding one. |

Yeah, I found something that looks similar from AMP/TE Connectivity on Digikey in the the "Card Edge Connectors - Contacts" category this morning and threw a half dozen (more than I'll need) on an order I was placing anyway. We'll see how they compare when they show up.
5-583853-3 in case anyone's curious. If they're wrong no big deal. |

That's a good find. I was going in circles with TE connectivity over those. But i was referencing the -2 part which was obsolete and they were telling me they weren't replaced. Glad to see they're back in action. _________________ '90 Carat w/ '95 phase 1 EJ22 OBD2 conversion |

Hopefully the -3 is the right thing, or at least workable. We'll see when they get here... |

I’ve got a dealer case with bags of nos connectors some of which I’ve never seen. I’ll post pictures with oem part numbers this weekend. _________________ VW LT40 build. Like a Vanagon but 30% larger in every direction and 40% slower even in metric.

I had a busy week so I forgot to answer.
Cannot find my notes with the AMP nr but I remember that I had the drawing sheet in PDF downloaded. Found the connectors and the sachet with a nr but it was the local dealers own partnr. Checked their webpage but its not listed now.
I hope that your nr is the one.
EDIT:
Checked your partnr online and found that page: https://www.digikey.com/catalog/en/partgroup/twin-leaf-series/56112?mpart=5-583853-3&vendor=17
Either 5-583853-3 or 5-583649-3 looks the one that VW used. I'm not sure whats the difference. Probably one is a ribbon style for automated crimping machines while the other is for the independent connector. _________________ Zoltan

Anybody know if these are still available and did the fit the 14-pin terminal connector? "Something similar" might not be "similar' enough.
Or any other source other than junker Vanagon?
Thanks

You are lucky. Brickwerks just announced last week that they managed to have them reproduced.
They already appeared in other european webshops, so it is just matter of time to have them in the US too.

Thanks. at £1.00 each that's a bit pricey, but if nothing else is available...
I've written them to ask about shipping to the US. _________________ 1984 Westy with tencentlife power! |
