I am working on a project on my 1995 eurovan Winnebago camper converting it to a syncro driveline. I purchased a used set up from a guy who salvages them in Germany. The differential locker was broken and I was able to make the one from go westy for the vanagons work. The part for the ABS brake system (009525641) was also damaged. looks like an electro-mechanical vacuum actuator. I replaced it but cant determine what it exactly does as my van does not have ABS. Has something to do with allowing the rear axle to fee wheel. SO I do not know what position to leave the actuator in as I have no ABS connections for the vacuum or solenoid connections. Been translating some blog and WIKI pages from German but still not clear. Hard to watch you tube videos in German as well. The Bentley manuals don’t cover these as they were not sold in us. Any ideas here or resources I can look at. tying to figure out what the default position is for the actuator do the rear axle will function properly

There are lots of T4 fans in the UK, and they have several online discussion groups that can probably provide you with the info you require. I wish I knew more about T4 Syncros, as I'd like to convert mine as well.

Oldhome, unrelated... Do you have the contact for the German parts source? I am contemplating the same, but don't have any contacts in Germany. TIA.

I have replaced the rear axle on my Syncro with one with locking diff, but I don't have ABS so I haven't dabbled with this myself... However, the point with the free wheel mechanism is that the ABS won't work together with the 4wd system, so it disconnects the rear axle from the front in order for the ABS to function properly. Without ABS on your car, the actuator will not do anything (unless you want it to - you could probably hook it up to a switch and make your car 2wd, for whatever reason...).

In the actuator rest mode, the diff should work as normal. In engaged mode, the axle input shaft should turn freely without turning the output flanges. If mounted correctly, you shouldn't have to worry about it at all, as I see it. It doesn't appear to do anything in its rest position.
