G'day Buggers,
New user here and rolling in hot with a question
I bought a German built, Australian delivered '58 Beetle not too long ago. Car has been parked dry for 35 years - seized engine, rotten seats, missing parts - the lot. Generally still very solid for its age but in need of a full resto.
As per the book, starting with mods before looking at the basics and ordered a set of rear pop-outs in Germany (have family there). It's the glass and frame only and I need to find the latches and hinge hardware now.
Has anyone got the part numbers for the latches please? They are the ones that attach with 2 rivets to the window frame.
Also, I've seen a lot of new aftermarket ones available. Trying to stick to originals but failing that, are they any good? Any recommendations for brand?
Interesting side note. Both windows are VW stamped, but made in Venezuela by different manufacturers (PPG & another one). Both have a green tint.
Thanks!

The Obsolete Air-Cooled Documentation Project (link below) has a bunch of hard and important original VW factory to dealership literature that are a must to go thru often. Up at the top of that webpage is the "Upcoming" button just to the right of center. Left click on that button and a pop list will pop up. AT the bottom of that list will be the "A type 1 parts manual from Andrew Whitlock", left click on that to get to that manual.

You will want to get used to the ten part organized sections. EG section 1 is Engine, on thru to 8 is Body (which you want for you present search), and 9 is Electrical

That's interesting as my frames only have two holes on the inside. They are not drilled through.
Not sure if they have a thread. I'll ask my mum to check |
