|
|
Hi all, my 1970 VW Beetle was converted to a beach buggy in 2003 in the UK. 2 years ago I exported to Spain. In order to now get insurance in order to drive this beautiful machine I need to register it as a Spanish vehicle.
The Spanish authorities need some very specific technical details in order to complete the process.
I have searched and searched the internet for hours and not being sufficiently technically/mechanically minded I am drawing blanks.
My hope is that there are experts here who can help me answer the 3 remaining questions on the paperwork.
These are:
1 - "Description of the axles. Type and capacity"
2 - "Shaft tracks 1st / 2nd / 3rd / ... mm"
3 - "Maximum net power (kw) at (min-1)"
Thank you in advance for any help you can provide. |

that seems just like a bad translation, how does these three questions read in Spanish?
If the actual questions are what I suspect, the iinformation you need is available on the owner's manual. _________________ cars:

Hi Garba, thanks for taking the time to reply, in Spanish the questions are:
1 - Descripción de los ejes. Tipo y capacidad
2 - Vías de los ejes 1º/2º/3º/... mm
3 - Potencia neta máxima (kw) a (min-1)
Hope this helps |

My Beetle was imported to Spain from Germany in 2000 so I guess the same questions were asked. I'll dig out my ficha técnica after lunch to see if it's any help to you. _________________ 1974 Beetle. Bus/Porsche/Rover V8 (Buick 215ci) Baja. (Unfinished project)

OK, as I suspected the first two questions seems more related to a truck than to a road car, anyway...
1) is asking the type axle: you should investigate here what "type" means in this context (a chart should be attached to the form with the possible answers), usually authorities are just interested in knowing which is the driven axle, you have 2 axles with RWD.
Axle loads are on the VW VIN plate in the bottom row.
2) they want to know the front and rear tracks (again, you have just 2 axles). those are in the last pages of the owner's manual, however if the car has been modified the track may have been changed (e.g. by fitting disc brakes or larger rims). track is the distance between the centerline of the axle's wheels
3) they want to know the engine's max power output and the RPMs it occurs. easy for a standard engine (again available on the owner's manual, you will just need to convert the HPs to kw), less easy for a modified engine.
note: if the car has been converted into a buggy in the UK a number of modifications may have occurred, and the standard beetle figures be completely off. In Italy there are companies who specialize in foreign vehicles' registration, and I'm pretty sure they have those in Spain, too and usually on modified cars they have an engineer take all the necessary measurements. _________________ cars:

My ficha técnica may only be of slight help.
Regarding the first question it only gives maximum weights:
MMA (kg): ......... 1180
MMA 1r E (kg): .... 490
MMA 2n E (kg): ... 720
Second Question:
Dist. eix 1r/2n (mm) ... 2400
(This would be wheelbase, distance between front and rear axle hub centres.)
Third Question:
My Potencia reads as 9,60/ 25 but that was for it's original 1200 engine.
I hope there's some clues there and it helps a bit. Good luck, I know what a nightmare anything related to importing vehicles to Spain can be! _________________ 1974 Beetle. Bus/Porsche/Rover V8 (Buick 215ci) Baja. (Unfinished project)

That does help Dal as it confirms the numbers that I have located.
The form is complete, I will send it in. No doubt they will want more so watch this space!
Thank you both for the invaluable help and guidance.

Hi all, at last an update, my buggy has been certified as a car!
Next step is put it through an ITV (Spanish MOT) once the lock down ends.
Thanks all once again for your assistance
