(planning ahead) I may be buying a motorhome and could tow a buggy ..but would also have a few surfboards and other misc. long stuff that would appreciate being out of the weather. Is there a size you have used that is more suitable than another without duplicating the motorhome? I'm talking about the possibility of months of travel. Thanks.

Width may be issue if you have big tire on buggy (you can always put skinny tires on for transport if you want) ... But it's really basically what ever buggy will fit into and all the other stuff.... Might suggest dual axle and electric brakes though...Yes 3000 to 4000 pounds extra weight behind motor home can push it around, and good brake setup on trailer can actually improve stopping distances... Also think spare tire for trailer, guaranteed if you have one along, you will never need it....
Things like surfboards and such can be on wall or overhead racks... IF you want to keep size down think of how you can arrange stuff to best optimise space...

I have used both 7x16 and 8.5x20, both with electric brakes and they worked fine. I definitely like the wider width as it makes getting in and out easier. 20 ft allows plenty of extra storage with buggy inside. Both my trailers are full aluminum which helps with towing weight. |

Another vote for twin axles and electric brakes. For furniture delivery we went from a big cutaway style box truck to a large enclosed trailer with ramp, tie downs, Z bar sides all around for ratchet straps and bungees. It is so well balanced to pull, and there is a digital brake force controller just on the left of my lower dash. I can easily match my braking to how heavily we are loaded. |

For basic car carrying have good tie down system, that is area where one should not scrimp... Also think of battery system that can charge off motorhome (charge while towing) for lighting and maybe small winch that can pull buggy into trailer if it's broken and can not run, better to have it and not need it.....

If you are going to buy an enclosed trailer get one big enough to put any car inside. I guarantee you will thank me later. I would suggest no smaller than a 8X18. Enclosed trailers hold their resale value so don't go cheap.
Get dual axle and electric brakes. Get interior lighting. Get roof vents. Get a heavy duty fold down rear door. Get a 36" side door. _________________ 2017 Street Comp Champion - Thunder Valley Raceway Park - Noble, OK

I have an 8.5 x 20 aluminum enclosed car trailer that I am very happy with. I can fit both the Buggy and the sand rail in it. I would much rather had hydraulic brakes but had to take electric as that is all they offered. |

I just bought a 7 x 16 with electric brakes. It will be used more often for motorcycles and bicycles, but I made sure the buggy fits too. I wanted to keep it as small as practical so I could pull it with my van or motorhome. Buggies are so light, if it fits it ships. We just got back from a vacation hauling a tandem bicycle, tandem kayak, and a motorcycle with sidecar in it. I put clothes hanging bars near the front and in the middle up high, really handy to keep a couple weeks clothing, jackets etc. out of the RV. I mounted the winch in the front too. |

I'll add it's the 4th trailer I've bought, once you have it it's handy for things you never thought of. |

When you buy an enclosed trailer you are also buying an extra garage. The trailer does not have to sit empty at the house when it is not being used. You can park the trailer at the house and keep your Dunebuggy in it all the time freeing up extra space in the real garage. _________________ 2017 Street Comp Champion - Thunder Valley Raceway Park - Noble, OK

That's how I use Ours, even added a gate, so I can unload it without moving the trailer.
Zoning would not allow addition to the garage in that direction, but trailer was not a problem.
That's how you Park 4 cars, in a 2 1/2 stall Garage.
Have a Great Day,

This is how we transport a buggy. 16' box van with ramps and winch. I didn't own a pickup or enclosed trailer, so I combined them.

Thanks, all... It's a tough one. I don't want to turn this into a massive enterprise just to drive around the country. Toyhauler is out - the prospect of oil stains/gas fumes in a bedroom would not get past my wife.
Much of my life has been pretty 'adventurous' but my wife is entering a stage of life where threats abound. I need to attenuate those impulses by anticipating the potential pitfalls.
I'll get looking into these. Thanks again for the suggestions.

Here's mine 8.5 x 18. I built it for multiple uses. I can use it as a toy hauler or as a camper. It has a winch, heat pump, solar, batteries, full shower, water w/ heater, TV, all LED, refrig. The buggy fits tight with 12x12 cabinets on each side. I can sleep in there with the buggy or take it out and lower the bed to the top of the cabinets. When the buggy is in there, I have room on both sides. _________________ I'd rather be an hour early than 5 minutes late. (Mine)

If I can jump in , I'm also looking to buy and enclosed trail for my bug. The question I have is what size truck to buy? From what I have found sounds like a standard 1/2 ton is to light a chassis. _________________ 67 Sun Roof / Born Sept 66 / Second Owner

Suggest "heavy half ton" with tow package as minimal... Also has to do with fully loaded weight of trailer vs towing specifications of PU... 3/4 ton would be better IF you can afford it but you give up some in ride quality (stiffer suspension) and economy when not towing....
