My 87 Vanagon has new exterior paint, and in the process I'm replacing all seals.
I have new window lift channel seals for the rollups, but cannot figure out how to remove the metal sleeve holding window.
I'm reluctant to pry at it for fear of damaging the window, but maybe it's just held by clamp force and a little stuck after all these years? |

BTDT - couldn't get the glass out of the lift channel either. Maybe someone has had success, but I just gave up and left the old rubber in - annoyed me when I was replacing everything else, but...it looked in good shape and doesn't seem to be causing any issues. Good luck! _________________ '86 Westy FAS GenV Turbo (Marvin) |

Why would you want to change that? There is no reason to change it. You can get the sash channel off by floating it with WD 40 and then using a thin screwdriver down between the rail and the rubber or pound it off with a wooden block.
In the past when installing a new door glass I have always just re-used that piece.
I think you're opening Pandoras box here, but forge on soldier.

Lift channel? What part are you referring to? The regulator guide which raises the window, or the metal at the forward edge which is part of the vent window? With the window down the rubber along the top and back edge just pulls out and the scrapers, inside and out pull up and out easily as well. Some of the scraper clips may come off and need to be replaced in the door which requires removing the glass.
Just don't understand what you are trying to do. Sorry.

What Duncan said. With the window down the upper portion's seam is along the back edge just above the glass. You work a pick into the seam and just peel out the whole piece pulling from back to front. The scrapers can be (carefully) pried up and out with the glass in place. I did this years ago and will need to do so again for an upcoming window winding repair.
