It has been years since I have been here. I had a split window many moons ago but marriage and kids kinda put the end to that. Anyway I ran across this bay window and I have committed to it. As I know very little about bay windows wanted to get some opinions. It has very little rust and looks pretty complete. I was initially afraid of the auto tranny but have read some that they are ok? Plan is to fix it up a bit and put in storage to give to one of my daughters when they get old enough.
I am sure I will have some questions in the future so please be patient. Thanks
Jason

Congratulations!, I see plenty of potential there. _________________ Rust NEVER sleeps and stock never goes out of style.

Thanks for the comments. Do bays have an options code tin plate like the splits? |

Yes they do, it will be on the horizontal fresh air duct under the driver side of the dash. I'll include a photo of mine.
Looks like both our '78s had the same guy install the dealer AC option. Cutting the Tin to do it didn't help. That will need addressing.

At first glance, your little gem does not exhibit anything that would make me walk away.
Your bus should have the later version automatic transmission which will be easier to find parts for than the earlier model.
If it comes to the point where you pull the engine and separate it from the automatic transmission, you can make a tiny mistake that can cause a lot of grief.
Please read about my experience:

I am ordering a manual so sorry for all the questions. I am assuming that if original this would be the 2.0 2000 cc engine type 4? Is there a model type of auto transmission it should have? Most importantly can you instruct me on how to install nitrous on this engine? not serious on last question.
Thanks again everyone. |

Nitrous is best fitted to the stick-shift engines, for pure power delivery.
Seeing how much original equipment is still on your bus, I'd bet money on it still being the original Type 4. (Though the marketing department rounded 1971cc's up…)
Your bus should have the "010" automatic transmission. It is a lovely piece of engineering, especially for its age. I work with many of them, and the only problems I come across is brittle plastic in the cabin shifter housing, and previous mechanics who bend linkage pieces removing them. Treat it with respect and you'll be fine.
The "Technical" tab on the top right of any Samba page has links to various manuals that you will want to download. From the owners manuals page, you can find your glovebox manual (VERY helpful for little details) as well as the 010 transmission troubleshooting guide.
Welcome to the tribe,
