I want to say early rabbit, but I am unsure. If you search the bus forum, some people were just talking about it, and of course saying not to use fram filters. Wix or napa gold, but I already knew that part from my watercooled days _________________ Stop dead photo links! Post your photos to The Samba Gallery! |

I'm using a K&N, this was recommended to me. I can get you the number if you want Brian.
Don't use a regular Fram! I've heard that there are issues with the run-of-the-mill Pep Boys, Smucks, Wal*Mart cheapie Fram oil filters. _________________ Phillip Bradfield

PH8A also works, but is not high pressure designed and I've "heard" of them bursting. I use the HP1 myself. _________________ One man's "patina" is another man's cancer...

I think I have one that has been removed out in the shop that still has the filter installed.
I can go look at it.
BTW, did you know that a lot of the filters on the market all come off the same assembly line. Just different colored paint or stamp in the printer. _________________ Society is like stew. If you don't keep it stirred up, you end up with a lot of scum on the top!--Edward Abbey

Huh. I've had HP1s since I've gotten the Notch running and no issues. The kit from GB even came w/ one.
I've got a MANN filter (German made) in the garage....the number on the box: W 940/25. Don't know if that helps. _________________ One man's "patina" is another man's cancer...

That's probably it. I don't start my car when it's cold. _________________ One man's "patina" is another man's cancer...

if you cut up a fram filter, then go cut up a wix or napa gold filet, you will see why not to use a fram. they are junk, cardbord string and glue.. the relief valve is the main issue. Mann is a much better filter, wix or napa gold is the way to go, and they are not expensive _________________ Stop dead photo links! Post your photos to The Samba Gallery!

looks like the NAPA filter is FIL 1452. I will be picking one of those up this week! Thanks for the Mann #, that helped! _________________ 64 No'back Speedster "Pearl"

Glad to be of service. I picked up the MANN for the next oil change [on the Notch] the last time I was in our local ACVW parts store. _________________ One man's "patina" is another man's cancer...

This guy likes the HP1:
http://www.aircooledtech.com/oil_filter/
I've been using HP1 since the day Gene Berg sent me one in my kit. Never an issue and seems to be doing it's job. I also run the Berg pressure relief valve so over-pressure isn't an issue for me in the cold...and my oil gauge proves it as well _________________ Toby http://www.aircoolednut.com/

better parts are better parts, fram is not owned by the company as it was back in the day. here is a long list of types, plus pics of them disassembled, etc http://www.knizefamily.net/minimopar/oilfilters/opinions.html _________________ Stop dead photo links! Yeah, I've seen that page and others. He does recommend HP1 for [Mopar] racing applications. Unfortunately, he doesn't have flow data, only observational. _________________ Toby http://www.aircoolednut.com/

One thing that he does not mention, and he may not be aware of it, but Mahle now owns Dana/Wix, and they also own Mann.
Most of their oil filters are assembled in China now.
We shipped a complete oil filter line that came out of Murfreesboro, TN last year to China.
Champion Filters is owned by a big conglomerate known as UCI. A competitor to Mahle. _________________ Society is like stew. If you don't keep it stirred up, you end up with a lot of scum on the top!--Edward Abbey
