I rebuild a 25 hp engine and have bought a set of new piston rings.
The oil control ring is made of 3 parts and the expander/spacer ring is soo hard, soo it´s impossible to get in the cylinder.
All other piston rings i have used before you can push easily together, but this model is hard as steel.
The piston is 74,96 and the piston rings are 75 mm.
Have any of you used this model before?

On the pictures it looks as if all the rings are too big in diameter. Have you checked the ring gap before, putting the rings in an empty cylinder, 5 mm from its downside??? They should have 0,3 to 0,45 mm, measured by feeler (thickness) gauge.

Hi Pastellgreen!
That is what i use to do with others piston rings.
But i have never seen any oil control ring like this before.
The ends are marked with red and green color and both ends should sit tight together and not overlap, tells the manual.
When everything is mounted you should see both the red and green ends. Should i grind on the green end, the small edge will disappear and then nothing will hold up anymore and it will be able to slip under the red end.

looking forward their answer. Had installed new piston rings from them on my 1200 40hp without any problems. The only thing is, that I am "trained" on installing the piston rings with their gaps in direction as the VW manual says. With the oil retaining ring from Grant, it changes all the directions, as their gaps are showing to the side and not upside as usual. |

It was wrong piston oil rings from Grant in the box.
I had very good mailcontact with the manufacter Grant and they solved the problem in best way.
Now the engine is done and runing.

I had same problem with 85.5 Grants, too big and won't fit. I only use Hastings now. _________________ Fat chick owner/operator |
