|
|
Hi I have this problem with the accelerator tube, I went to replace the accelerator cable, but it feels like I have something stuck 3/4 of the way down.
Did the original cable come with a plastic cover on it?
Because there is something inside the accelerator tube that is restricting the new one going thru.
Has anyone else had this problem?
Is there anything I can buy that will allow me to clean out the tube.
I thought of a gun wire brush or something like that to attach to a drill and reem the inside of the tube out.
Sorry for this being long winded, but any suggestions would be great.
Thanks |

You could use a plumbing snake. |

Or maybe an electrician's fish tape. The hooked end might be able to grab the obstruction and allow you to pull it out. _________________ 70 Manx Clone

mine had a similar feel. hopefully you don't have the same problem.
when the PO cut the chassis he cut the tubes right along with it rather than leaving them long. so my tubes are cut in the middle of the tunnel. front half, space , back half. in my case i can pull the shift coupler access plate, pull the coupler and feed my new throttle cable from the front tube into the rear and out again. this will of course tear up the cable quicker but i live with it. been good for 5 years now and seems still good there at the spot since i checked the other day when i opened it to do my clutch cable which is the same way! |

It might be easier to just replace the tube or fit another tube next to the original one inside the tunnel. |

Thanks Geb, I have never heard of the electrical fish tape but I am going to buy one and give it a try first.
Cheers |

Fish tape is used to pull wires through conduit or under carpet etc. This pic shows the various ends that are available, I'm thinking that the top 2 might work. Its stiff enough that you might even be able to push the obstruction out. Good luck.

I used Bicycle brake cable in my drill. And PB Blaster. Cleaned up nicely _________________ BillW in St Louis
