Folks,
I had my 1974 Ghia clock converted to a tachometer. It is working well, installed fine, but I have had a persistent problem. I think since I used the same electrical connector that the clock originally used, that it is slowly draining my battery. Is this possible? If so, which other electrical connection should/could be used instead which might not cause this?
Am I way off base on this? I know others have made the conversion and I could use some help figuring this out. Thanks a lot in advance for your advice. |

I would assume that the clock is wired to constant power. I don’t know offhand which fuse that is on a ‘74.
Move that wire to the switched fuse so it is only powered when the key is on. _________________ Volkswagen!

Do you have a picture? Never seen a late clock to tach conversion and would like to do this. _________________ Go Reds! Smash state!

I think this may solve one of the mysteries of my own Ghia ('68 coupè). I replaced the clock with a tach and have had a slow drain on the battery ever since, without (until now) realising that I may have created the problem myself.
I think Jeffrey8164 may have provided the answer. We shall see. _________________ Festina lente - hasten slowly

I, too, am interested in this topic. I am looking for an aftermarket speedometer and tachometer to replace the original speedometer and clock. Any ideas about a vendor or brand of instruments that fit the 4.9" or 124 mm speedometer and clock? I may be hijacking the original post but it looks like you got a tach to fit.
Thanks for any help. |
