CB is a 72/73 bus motor, but that one has 411/412 D-jet injection installed. The gold paint hints at a VWC rebuild, look closely near the number for a VW symbol with some arrows around it in a circle.
If it is a VWC it may have some build specs stamped into the side of the sump. _________________ Rust NEVER sleeps and stock never goes out of style.

It's definitely been rebuilt at some point. One can easily see that the area where the serial number is stamped has been milled off and a new number applied -- note the step/ridge at top and the shallow remains of a few old stampings below the S and 15. _________________ 1960 Ragtop w/Semaphores "Inga" |

Thanks for the information, I was told it was a rebuilt Porsche engine
I'm thinking its a bus for sure, I'm hoping its a good candidate for the Bus, I will check on side of the sump and report back,
What is a 411/412 D-jet injection ?
Not looking a using that set up
at this time.. |

D-jet is the type of fuel injection system on it. Very early 914 also used D-jet (I think).... the 411 was VW's big sedan and station wagon, AKA the type 4.
If you do end up with it I would be interested in the injectors for another project of mine. _________________ Rust NEVER sleeps and stock never goes out of style.

Vw 411/412 1.7L is...exact....same-same....in every respect to the 1.7L that came in the 914.
Same injection, same compression, same cam, same valves, same timing and distributor. The only differences were very minor sheet metal changes and longer heat exchanger pipes because the 914 mounted it mid engine and the 411/412 was rear engined.
It actually came out first in the 411 and a couple of years later went into the 914 Porsche with the same exact specs.
But.....its been factory rebuilt so no telling what is inside. Ray |

Thanks raygreenwood for the information. Unless I can use the injectors on a Vanagon I will not be using them. I have to do my research.
Here are more pictures.

Nothing on the sump, so assume it's a stock 1700 with solid lifters. _________________ Rust NEVER sleeps and stock never goes out of style.

But that cylinder head picture...thats is squeeky clean.
The nice thing about engines that were mainly in 411/412 and 914 is that they are usually way less beat up than pmne that spent years in a bus. Tear this down carefully. It may be in very good hape. Ray |
