Would like to introduce our 1970 VW Campmobile 70. My lady and I were discussing getting into a T3, but after going around to view several I became utterly dismayed...
One morning at work, this sharp looking (in the photos) '70 came up, but far beyond what we wanted to pay. The owner was a super good dude, and honest about the van.
Went and had a look. Fell in love.
Went back for another look, but with grubbies on and brought the lady.
Climbed underneath, was less infatuated but thought we'd make an offer.
Next day, we're the proud owners of a classic example of a long term project.
The old girl has history, being driven new from Germany to Cape Town, and then back up to Europe the LONG way (East Africa, Iran, and then North West until she eventually left England en route to Canada.
The more we dig, the better (and worse) she gets. All the original Campmobile extras are present and accounted for, including the warranty service airline ticket deals) , kid's cot, the sink (which we still need to pick up), and the list goes on.
She needs some metal, but the chassis is solid, and after some hours and apologies, the 1917cc with twin OG Dellortos is running far better than it was when we picked her up. Plus removing 33' of wiring that didn't quite need to be there...
We love her, and so do the kids!

That’s a sweet bus. Love the color and the history is amazing. _________________ 1978 Transporter 2.0 FI, BA6

Thanks a lot! We're trying to prep her up for an eventual trip down the Baja, so we're pretty stoked to keep the adventure going _________________ Driving the only vehicle I have ever owned that gets cheered on for passing others up hill! |
