So I have new headlights but they don't have the same notches to match my headlight rings or whatever you call those things that hold the headlights in place. It appears that the previous headlights weren't stock either and so there are extra notches cut into the rings. Seems the only I can get the rings is to buy the WHOLE headlight housing! Where can I get new rings? And what is the best way to get your new headlights mounted properly so they don't wind up out of whack? Thanks for your help!

Are you looking for these? Check out the classified. I saw a few singles and pairs, basically anything you need for headlights

Hi Miskeroo
No I need the rings that retain the sealed headlight. They're inside the housing.

If you are looking for those inside rings make sure you verify they are Bus.

Bus vs. Bug holds the sealed beam headlight at 90 degrees from each other since they mount different in the Bug fender vs the Bus nose.

You can trim off one of the little mounting tabs though, in a pinch

I don't know from what part of the earth the ad two posts above mine hails, but those are a $2-$5 item at any junkyard or swap meet, anywhere, any time FYI

The inner aiming rings that Everett refers to are easily spotted in the wild as being for bug, bus left side or bus right side when facing the vehicle. Turn the complete unit toward you. There are 3 slots punched in the inner aiming ring. Mounting a headlight upright in a bug the 3 tabs are oriented (using a clock face as reference) exactly 9 and 12 o'clock, with the third being at approx. 4:30 (there are others with more than 3 slots- but you are looking at the main 3 in orientation). Using that as a base...

Rotate the unit until the ring slots are oriented as described above. It will quickly show whether the assembly will hold a bulb upright in one of the 3 configurations described. Ex: bus driver's side in America would have slots at 6, 9, and approx. 2:30 (o'clock). Passenger side- 12, 3 and about 7:30.

You easily spot these in the wild or at a swap meet using this simple criteria.

I was just trying to help. There are very few aircooled vehicles in junkyards these days, if any. And spending hours scouring swap meets for these sounds like a waste of time to me. Also, most swaps are shut down.
I figured $10 each + shipping would put it at about $30-$35 depending on location. I don’t think $40 shipped is out of this world. Again, just trying to help with what I can, how I can. Thanks. Peace, keep vdubbin.

I agree my outside rings ad above might be overpriced.
Someone had emailed me about them though so maybe not? No word back yet.
I changed it to OBO anyway Smile

What junkyard can you find decent Bus headlight rings in though?
I rarely see undented Bus ones at swap meets, I have more but they are all dented.
Restorable buckets are a dime/dozen though
Clean glass lenses are hard to find too

The inside rings... it's harder to find Bus ones.
I wouldn't pay that much but it wouldn't surprise me if someone did if they lived in a rusty area and wanted clean ones
Side rant: "Shipped" can get expensive these days, they keep jacking up the post office rates.
