|

I'm looking at a distributor and coil that I don't know much about and am considering running. I have found info on the Mallory distributors, but nothing on this part # R2354101. What is the consensus on these pieces in comparison to a typical 009 with Pertronix and a blue Bosch coil?
It appears that this dist and coil are no longer available. Are they worth picking up or worth the effort if an existing setup is working? Distributor would work on a T4 the same as T1, correct?
I'm looking for info on these, opinions (good and bad) on them, and appx value of them. Thank you in advance.

Been running them for 15+yrs on my junk.
Way better than MSD crap.
Optical trigger, totally clean signal. Never had one fail ever.
Easy to adjust the advance.
I buy all I can find used. Just picked up one last week N.O.S.
Summit racing still sells parts for them. |

Thanks for all the replies. What did the NOS one run you?
Anyone have a catalog or info on the different part #'s for the distributors? I can't find any hits here on the part # of the one I posted. I see a few other part #'s that are close in sequence but nothing on this actual part # I posted? |

New they were $350 each.
I bought this NOS one for $175. I thought it was a steal so I jumped on it fast. |

I downloaded the following Mallory pdf's in 2005:
Coils_&_Accessories.pdf
Distributors.pdf
HyfireIgn_&_Accessories.pdf
PM me your email and I'll forward them. |

Tom I got mine on ebay, like new. By searching by accident found a guy with a Racing board that used it in one race. I searched by using the same numbers as the one for my bug. Did not say VW or bug and up it came
I got it for $60. |
That's awesome..
Many times they are listed as a Porsche 914 distributor. |

Thanks for the great info and replies. With a little help (read a lot of help) from crocteau who graciously sent me a lot of Mallory documentation in pdf form, I was able to make sense of the part # on my distributor R2354101. It corresponds with a breaker point distributor which it may have originally been. However, since this distributor has the breakerless electronic internal parts it's more of a R4554101 distributor. The info that crocteau sent is invaluable and includes a wiring info and test procedures for the Unilite as well.
By the sounds of all the replies, it appears I should swap in this Mallory stuff in place of my existing VW parts mentioned above. Add it to the to do list I suppose. Thanks again guys. |
