The latest non Methylene Chloride version purely sucks. Spit works better.

Any other stuff out there a hobbyist can get that works worth a crap?

I used CitriStrip. It is slow but non-lethal toxic. You may find it unsuitable for your taste but it is an option. It's an "apply it overnight covered with plastic" type of product.

I too haven’t been able to get Methylene Chloride strippers to work even with the plastic bag trick on original VW paint. Not too bad on respray areas.

Now I just leave it in for 10 minutes and use coarse stainless steel wool and scrub it off. It comes off pretty well but you can only do small areas because it’s not much good if it dries out.

B15 semi-paster stripper is a good product but hazardous and expensive.

Thanks. Yeah I'm looking for something that is effective like the old aircraft stripper. I LOL when I saw removes paint in 45 min! All this stuff does is just dry and leave a crusty mess that has to be removed and does nothing to remove the paint.

I am trying to pull a layer of paint off of my bus. It's being very tough. So far I have been wet sanding but what a pain! With the old stuff, I could leave it on for a few seconds and quickly remove. Pulled a lot off without hurting the original paint.

It will look fugly with rust/dents/filler etc showing through the original paint! Bodywork it and repaint the exterior only. Twisted Evil

That's a whole lot of cash I don't have.

Not a body or paint guy.

Better take it to a good fabricator/welder first of all.

I just got some rustoleum paint stripper. I have a plastic grille that someone texture painted. I brushed it on and it the paint all wrinkled. So I got the brilliant idea to hose it off. That barely worked. Now I have paint sludge that seems to be now reacting poor to new coats of aircraft stripper. I let it sit a day before trying anything. Any suggestions? The metal parts of the grille stripped nicely.

i like Jasco paint stripper , it works GREAT . but i live in california and i know the formula has changed some here recently . i still have an older version gallon can ...... it comes in different strengths .........this one shows its a 15 minute version ..... DO NOT get any on your skin !!!

i think the old can i have has the methylene chloride in it .

they used to sell a 5 minute version .

so i go n look , now days there is a California version , and a non california version depending where you are .......i doubt the california brand is very good any more .

I definitely noticed a lack of strength. The old stuff you could feel any minute spec on your skin. Not so much with this stuff.
In the meantime I have hardened sludge paint. A used grille is $125

I feel like anything strong would mess up the plastic itself?

Here's another thread with some suggestions about stripping paint from plastic:
